Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson‘s return has changed the entire landscape of the modern era in WWE. His return created a lot of buzz around the product, and people who weren’t that connected with WWE joined just to see him. However, this feeling was not just among fans, as I.C. Champion Gunther also felt the earth-shattering shift in the business. 

Gunther spoke with talkSPORT and discussed various topics regarding the upcoming mega event of WrestleMania 40. When he was asked about The Rock‘s return and how it affected the wrestling industry, The Ring General stated that it was amazing how a business could change in such a short amount of time.

The Austrian further added that The Great One’s return has brought many casual fans to watch the show. His segments are also blowing up on social media and gaining millions of views, ultimately creating a buzz among the WWE Universe. Many fans will tune up to watch the 51-year-old legend perform at WrestleMania after so many years. 

It’s crazy and shows you how much our business can change over the last five years of a time window, it’s absolutely crazy, what a rollercoaster. It’s exciting and interesting. There are so many things unfolding that people didn’t see coming before. Having The Rock along in the mix, basically out of nowhere, it’s absolutely crazy for the company’s reach and the buzz around it.

However, credit should go to champions like Gunther too, as he became the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time. He will defend his title again at the Show of Shows against a familiar opponent, Sami Zayn. It will be interesting to see whether Zayn manages to end another legendary title reign at WrestleMania or whether The Ring General stands tall once again.

Although Gunther will engage in a highly anticipated battle against Sami Zayn, it doesn’t stop him from showing respect and admiration for his opponent. The 36-year-old superstar has insulted him on many occasions and didn’t even accept him as a credible contender. However, his opinions were a bit different for the man behind the character.

During his interview with talkSPORT, he was asked about the man who was behind the character, Rami Sebei. The Ring General had nothing but praise for the hard work he had put in and his heart-to-heart connection with fans. He further added that Sebei voices his opinion on what he thinks is right or wrong, and that’s the kind of attribute a lot of people would like to have. 

He works hard, obviously. You can’t deny that, and I think that’s why he connects really well with the audience. What people see in the ring is what you get in real life and when you interact with him backstage.

It is unbelievable to think how far the 39-year-old has come, considering he was fighting Johnny Knoxville at WrestleMania 38. Fast forward a year later, he was an integral part of one of the biggest storylines of the modern era. 

He, along with his longtime friend Kevin Owens, broke the longest reign of the Undisputed Tag Team Championships. Now, the Canadian star has a chance to rewrite history once again at the Show of Shows.
