“No, I don’t want it” Gunther reveals his thoughts on getting his NXT UK name back in WWE
Gunther
Gunther is currently holding the Intercontinental Championship and he has been dominating the mid-card of the blue brand and had a lot of brilliant title defenses in which both the challenger and the champion were looking good. He recently defended the title against Sheamus in a very brutal match.
Gunther has achieved a lot in the WWE NXT UK brand in which he held the NXT UK title for a very long time. During his time in the NXT UK brand, he was not named Gunther and was called Walter at that time but when he made his main roster debut WWE changed his name to Gunther.
Walter was not a good name according to Gunther
The name change occurred due to the character as he was given as a German heel who was in WWE to dominate every American. He recently reformed his old faction which he had in NXT UK, “The Imperium”. Everybody had a very positive reaction towards the faction reforming.
Gunther recently was asked about how he thinks about going back to his original name and Gunther straight away said no he said that he would not like to go back to what he was in the time he spend in NXT UK. As it was a small role and it can be easily forgettable.
The thing which I am doing right now will not be forgotten and even more than that I worked on what I have done in my body and character currently and I don’t want to go back to what I was. After all, he is correct as he is Intercontinental Champion after all.
“No, not really, to be honest [if the name change bothers him]. I think it felt like a step up in general, compared to who I was before, and I wouldn’t want to take that away. I think progress is always something positive and not negative, and I think it would be more negative to be like, go back to who I was before. I’ve put a lot of work into being a new person, an updated version of myself, so I wouldn’t want to take that away.”
