Current champion plans on going on a break from WWE after dominating 2023

The current and longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion, Gunther, has dominated the entire 2023 season with fantastic matches against countless superstars. Now, after defeating The Miz in a nail-biting match, the Ring General has decided to step away for a few weeks. Moreover, he decided to give the responsibility to his Imperium teammates.

The A-Lister and Gunther had an intense rivalry, going back and forth for the past few weeks. He defeated the Miz at Survivor Series, but he was not finished with the champ as he challenged Gunther again for the I.C. Title. This time there was a special stipulation that if Miz lost, he could never challenge Gunther again. On the latest episode of Monday Night Raw, the 36-year-old once again defeated the veteran.

After the match, Gunther met with his partners Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci backstage, berating them for not being up to the mark. He warned them to take responsibility and grind some wins until he came back from a break. For the past few weeks, Kaiser and Vinci have not been on the same page as they have been losing matches against DIY.

Although he is a ‘bad’ guy, fans have always admired the way Gunther wins his matches. Also, he rarely, if ever, requires outside help from his partners to win a match and always delivers amazing matches. It will be interesting to see after he comes back from a well-deserved break, which superstar will go after his title. 

Booker T wants Brock Lesnar to go after Gunther’s Intercontinental Title

WWE Hall of Famer Booker T believes that Brock Lesnar should go after Gunther’s I.C. title. He feels that it is a match worthy of a main event anywhere in the world.

He spoke about this topic in his Hall of Fame podcast and expressed his feelings about the high-profile match between Brock and Gunther. One shocking fact is that The Beast Incarnate has never won a mid-card title throughout his career. 

Brock-Gunther on another note, that’s a man’s man’s matchup right there. Anybody who loves this business and loves wrestling should want to see that match-up right there. That’s that one right there. It’s a main event anywhere in the world.

Booker T on the possibility of Brock Lesnar vs. Gunther

The Ring General had one of the best years of his career and strengthened his legendary title reign to 555 days. They even had a little face-off in the Royal Rumble match this year. It will be amazing to see Brock going for the I.C. title, as it will increase the prestige of the title even more. However, only time will tell what the future holds for Gunther and his historic title reign.
