Hulk Hogan might be WWE’s greatest heroic portrayal ever. However, when it comes to overall popularity and in-ring abilities, Stone Cold Steve Austin edges him out. The claim was made by current AEW personnel Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Very often, this conversation of all-time greats is brought into the mix. There’s always going to be different opinions on it. But, in Jake’s mind, he venerates Austin at a higher rank than Hogan.
Speaking on his The Snake Pit podcast, the 69-year-old wrestling icon revealed what differentiates The Texas Rattlesnake and The Hulkster. With no disregard for the latter, Snake hailed Austin’s versatility. In fact, he also praised Austin’s ability to get “right back to it.” This was a reference made to Stone Cold’s return match against Kevin Owens last year.
Fans would find it difficult to argue with Snake Roberts over his comments in the aforementioned podcast. Hulk Hogan was the company’s top babyface superstar in the 1980-90s. However, what catapulted WWE into inaccessible levels of popularity ware Stone Cold’s irreplaceable contributions during the Attitude Era.
Despite being a bad guy, the Bionic Redneck’s antics pleased the audience. That ultimately turned him into an anti-hero. Austin and Hogan never faced off against each other in a singles match. They were part of a tag match. Coming back to Austin’s influence on wrestling, he was the company’s flag bearer alongside The Rock at that juncture.
Furthermore, their epic trilogy is regarded as the greatest ever. Come rain or shine, Stone Cold Steve Austin helped WWE garner millions of new viewers during his prime. That’s something only a handful of people have done.

Is Stone Cold Steve Austin open for another match in WWE?
Last year at WrestleMania, Steve Austin had a successful in-ring return against Kevin Owens. Their match received massive acclaim for the way it actually went down. But with that in the rear-view, fans still wonder whether that was the last gasp from Austin. They want to know if he closed the lid or if he has one more left in him.
The Texas Rattlesnake himself answered that question. During one of his interviews this year, Austin squashed any rumors of his regular in-ring schedule. For the unversed, WWE made significant efforts to lock him up for another match at this year’s Showcase of the Immortals. However, the 58-year-old turned it down.
He doesn’t want to do it that frequently anymore. Steve is back to where he was previously, and that’s to motor his ATV, producing tons of beers. However, Stone Cold did mention that he’s always going to entertain business offers from WWE. That being said, the fans now await his next television appearance.
