Former NXT Women’s Champion Kairi Sane reportedly signed a deal with the WWE on August 5. Therefore, she is scheduled to return to the company after leaving almost three years ago. However, the former tag team champion would have to wait to wrap up a few dates for STARDOM in Japan. Recently, a new report emerged about Kairi’s status and return.

As per BWE via WrestleOps, Kairi Sane will be showing up in WWE soon. After the update, fans speculated on whether she could show up at the upcoming PLE, Fastlane. As many might know, Iyo Sky will defend the WWE Women’s Championship against Charlotte Flair and Asuka. The latter’s presence in the match has spearheaded the rumors.

Kairi Sane and Asuka, the Kabuki Warriors, are the longest-reigning Women’s Tag Team Champions in WWE history. Also, the 35-year-old competed alongside Iyo Sky in NXT, where they fought under the tag team name of The Sky Pirates. All in all, there are a lot of possible scenarios for Kairi to work in when she finally returns to the Stamford-based promotion.

After departing in December 2021, the Female Pirate returned to the Stardom promotion, where she initially began her career, and wrestled for New Japan Pro Wrestling. During her stint, she became the inaugural IWGP Women’s Champion. Later, Kairi Sane lost her title against Mercedes Mone, previously known as Sasha Banks, at the 2023 Battle In The Valley pay-per-view.

Kairi Sane’s career in WWE

Kairi Sane made her WWE debut in the inaugural Mae Young Classic. On September 12, 2017, she won the tournament by defeating Shayna Baszler in the final. Straightaway, many fans became aware of Kairi’s in-ring skills and talent as she fought in entertaining encounters against Bianca Belair and Toni Storm.

Soon after, Kairi started competing under the NXT brand. Later, she would become the Women’s Champion almost a year later, winning against Baszler in a repeat of the Mae Young Classic final. In early 2019, Kairi Sane debuted on the main roster, forming a tag team with Asuka, the Kabuki Warriors.

It didn’t take long for the Japanese pair to capture the Tag Team Championship, ending up as the longest reigning champions in the titles’ short history. After a string of injuries and concussions, Kairi Sane departed the WWE. Moreover, she returned to Japan as a global ambassador for the company.
