CM Punk‘s return was the final nail in the coffin for WWE to cap off an unprecedented year for their business. ‘The Best in the World’ has piqued immense interest in the existing product, and it’s proving to be the gift that keeps giving. In a new high for the wrestling business, Punk’s merchandise sales shot a never-seen-before trend and amassed a whopping $600,000 million within the first hour of his emergence at Survivor Series.

Baffled by such numbers courtesy of ‘One Bill Phil,’ WWE HOF’er Kevin Nash compared Punk augmenting his merchandise sales to that of Tony Montana‘s rise to the top of the cherry through cocaine. That’s one hell of a reference while adjudging a pro wrestling boom to one of cinematic history’s greatest on-screen characters.

On his Kliq This podcast, Nash also weighed in on the years of baggage CM Punk would’ve carried on his shoulders before walking through those curtains to cut his first WWE promo in nearly a decade. The former NWO member admittedly watched the SmackDown, which paid tribute to the US armed forces solely because Punk was on it.

These are some things that have been brought to my attention. [CM] Punk is selling f*cking merchandise like Tony Montana f*cking moved cocaine. I think he did $600,000 worth of merchandise like the first 24 hours that he came back.

Not only that, but Kevin Nash also gave Triple H his flowers for letting CM Punk show up at NXT Deadline, where he did a segment with Shawn Michaels to open the show. Nash iterated that it certainly brought some more eyeballs towards WWE’s developmental territory due to Punk.

CM Punk continues to power through the prevailing records in WWE

All CM Punk has done since returning to WWE is smash record after record. A few days ago, The Second City Saint unlocked yet another milestone when his Survivor Series return video on YouTube topped Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson‘s one-off SmackDown appearance in September. The Great One roped in just a touch over 7 million views for his segment with Pat McAfee and Austin Theory in three months.

Meanwhile, Punk, who’s still some days short of marking a month since his return, has already overtaken The Rock and currently stands at 7.3 million views on YouTube. Speaking of how Punk has affected ticket sales on WWE shows, he’s having a fairytale run on this aspect of the business as well.

As the fans know, WWE is running a house show next Tuesday at Madison Square Garden, and Punk is advertised to make his in-ring against Dominik Mysterio. It would be Punk’s first WWE match since 2014, and the venue is approaching 15,000 tickets sold for the show.
