Kevin Owens is currently one of the most beloved babyface superstars in WWE. The Prizefighter has had a decorated career, winning multiple championships in the company. The outspoken and brawling Owens has been equally entertaining for the audience, but this has not been the same since its inception.
Back in the day, his career and wrestling skills made him look like a failure in WWE. However, in eight years, he has achieved a historic record by competing in the 800th match for the Stamford-based promotion. Wrestle Features shed light on this news and lauded Kevin Owens for his illustrious career so far in the company.
The tweet wrote that Kevin Owens was told by many that he could not succeed in WWE as he had wrestled in the independent circuits for only 14 years. But nine years later, after his debut in NXT, KO proved everyone wrong. He wrestled his 800th match in the WWE SuperShow held at Laval in his home state of Quebec in a six-man tag team match against Imperium.
The match kicked off the live event with a massive victory for the face team. Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and Drew McIntyre went against the Imperium for the second time in a row a day before the event in Ottawa. This monumental victory was celebrated as Owens made an appearance in the squared circle after recovering from an injury.
Over the years, Kevin Owens has achieved much success in the Stamford-based promotion. However, his Undisputed Tag Team Championship reign has been underwhelming with lesser defenses. The only major event where the titles felt relevant was Night of Champions. Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa were the challengers for the gold as The Bloodline drama was at its peak.
Kevin Owens wrestled the Judgment Day on RAW
The August 21st episode of Monday Night Raw saw Kevin Owens return after recovering from his injury. The surprise appearance felt more special as Quebec welcomed Owens with a thunderous reaction for saving his partner Sami Zayn. As a result, the two superstars faced the Judgment Day on the main event of RAW.
Owens and Zayn wrestled against Finn Balor and Damian Priest in a non-title match. But JD McDonagh’s help for the heel faction saw Kevin take advantage and attack Balor. As Owens used the Money in the Bank briefcase, the contest landed on The Judgment Day’s side with a disqualification win.
Therefore, Cody Rhodes came out and teamed up with the face team. Soon after, Dominik Mysterio joined the bout for a six-man tag team match, having the earlier competitors battle again. In the end, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and Cody emerged victorious on the Judgment Day.
