The two wrestlers even fought as a part of rivalry and not for any championship, with their Steel Cage match at RAW in 2001 being one of the best Steel Cage matches of all time. They both also fought as a team against other wrestlers and were the inaugural tag team champions.

Chris Benoit also feuded with Kurt Angle for the WWE Championship and even won once but there was no title change due to disqualification. Kurt defended the title against Benoit at Royal Rumble 2003. The Rivalry was one of the most intense and physical rivalries of all time.
