Kurt Angle has been regarded as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, and has been one of the only two wrestlers to make Brock Lesnar tap out, the other one being Chris Benoit. Kurt Angle has fought with almost every best there was during his era, He even won against the Hollywood Hulk Hogan during the 2002 King of the Ring Tournament by making him tap out. He was the winner of that tournament in that year.

Kurt Angle has always felt that he was the best in WWE, and that’s what every other wrestler’s gimmick implies. In the middle of 2002, Kurt started challenging wrestlers to a match against him. He would summon the wrestlers in the locker room and challenge them to a match against him. One wrestler accepted the challenge and went on to become the “Face of the Company” in coming decade and that man was none other than John Cena.

On June 27 2002, John Cena made his WWE debut on SmackDown Brand and accepted Kurt Angle’s Challenge to have a bout with him, Cena gave a tough fight to angle but lost the match. Cena’s debut marked the beginning of Ruthless Aggression Era. Cena earned the praise of many wrestlers that night at the backstage including the Undertaker. John Cena was also the one who inducted Kurt Angle into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017. This also marked Kurt’s return to the company after almost 11 years.

Kurt Angle recently revealed to TV Insider what he said to John Cena following Cena’s debut match against him. Angle said that Cena thanked him for working with him and that john was very respectful towards him. Kurt also stated that he knew Cena was great from the minute he entered the ring until the match’s conclusion. He concluded by saying that he knew John Cena would be the huge star and become the face of WWE in the next decade.

“All I said was, ‘You stepped up tonight. It was a great match.’ He said, ‘Thank you, Mr. Angle, for working with me. I really do appreciate it.’ He was very respectful. I knew this kid was very special from the first time I got in the ring and after I got done wrestling him, I knew he would be a huge star down the road,” said Angle.”

During Kurt’s last run in WWE, He acted as a GM and even wrestled in a few matches. He recently stated on the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling Podcast that he wasn’t happy with how everything played out and that it wasn’t a big welcome for him when he came back to WWE in 2017.  Angle said that he wasn’t utilized how he wanted them to and Vince McMahon didn’t have any plans for him. Kurt explained that due to his neck injuries back in the 2000s, Vince felt that he was a liability and didn’t utilize him the way he also wanted to.

John Cena is set to appear on RAW on 27th June to celebrate his 20th anniversary with the company.
