“He never gets the credit he deserves”; WWE Hall of Famer cites Christian Cage as the most underrated wrestler of all-time

When you count the all-time greats of professional wrestling, you have hardly got the mention of Christian Cage. The 48-year old has been a vital mainstay in this business from a very long time. Cage started off his main journey with WWE in 1998. He gained massive prominence by working alongside Edge as a Tag-Team.
The duo defined several extreme match types including Tables, Ladders & Chairs. At Wrestlemania 17, Edge and Christian defeated The Dudley Boyz and Hardy Boyz in a Triple-Threat TLC match to become the brand new WWF Tag-Team Champions. After leaving the company in 2005, Christian returned back in 2009.
He had also worked for TNA sporadically and has been a part of multiple PPV main-event across the companies he’s worked. Due to unfortunate neck injuries, his wrestling career was cut short and as a result of those, Christian quietly tagged himself as retired.
However, following the footsteps of his lifelong friend Edge, the former World Heavyweight Champion groomed himself for an in-ring return. He made his wrestling return in an impromptu match against Randy Orton on the June 15 edition of Monday Night Raw. The Viper ruthlessly dismantled Christian Cage after the latter we caught by a low-blow from Ric Flair.
Following a brutal ambush from Orton, the 48-year old veteran made his return as a surprise entrant in last year’s Royal Rumble match. He shared an emotional moment with Edge during the match as they both hugged each other and started working cohesively. There were rumours that Christian will eventually ink a deal with WWE after that, however that didn’t work out. He’s signed to AEW right now.
Kurt Angle terms Christian Cage as the most “underrated” ever
Although, Christian Cage is one of the most prolific performers of all-time having gathered necessary accolades to fall into that category. To an understatement, he never gets his due credit and often gets overseen under the scanner. However, Kurt Angle recently spoke about the same topic on the latest edition of The Kurt Angle show.
Angle said he’s the most underrated out there and has played in the shadows of his legendary friend Edge. Then, the Olympic Gold medalist lauded the current AEW star saying he’s been far better than most of us in putting matches together. Christian Cage got huge props for having such a creatively superior head.
“He is the most underrated wrestler of all time. He’s always been in the shadow of Edge and he’s actually just as good as Edge, and he’s actually better than all of us at putting matches together. He comes up with incredible spots and incredible ideas. The kid is so creative and he goes out on the mat and backs it up. He’s just an incredible wrestler,”.
