Hollywood sensation Dwayne Johnson is set to make his WWE in-ring return at WrestleMania 40. He’s slated to join forces with Roman Reigns in a tag team showdown against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on April 6. However, for those who’re wondering how long The Great One’s stint will last, there’s a significant update.
According to PWInsider, the wrestler-turned-actor will revert to his full-time gig post-Mania fervor. He’s primed to portray legendary MMA fighter Mark Kerr in his upcoming feature film project, The Smashing Machine. It draws inspiration from a 2002 HBO documentary based on Kerr’s career and struggles with substance abuse. Beginning on May 1, the filming will conclude three months later, on August 1.

As a result, it’s more than likely that The Rock would not be involved in any sort of physical activity for WWE during the mentioned span. Out and out, it draws discrepancies to a recent report that iterated that WrestleMania 40 won’t be The Brahma Bull’s only match this year. It further added that there’s an internal push for the Attitude Era icon to work at least one Saudi Arabia PLE in 2024.
However, since the next one falls in late May, over three weeks removed from when The Rock begins filming, he wouldn’t be there. Since the company holds a couple of big ones in the Middle East in a calendar year, The People’s Champ might make it on the second attempt.
As mentioned earlier, The Rock’s Seven Bucks Productions will wrap filming The Smashing Machine on August 1. That falls a couple of days before this year’s SummerSlam. So even if he wouldn’t fancy himself wrestling, an appearance might be on the cards.
The Rock heads to Memphis for SmackDown tonight
Tonight on SmackDown, The Rock comes home to Memphis. It will mark his third consecutive appearance on the blue brand. And following last week’s smack in the face, The Great One will be gunning for revenge.

None among Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, or Seth Rollins is currently advertised for the show. That points towards a solo appearance from the most electrifying man on the planet.
Last week, WrestleVotes reported that The Rock’s concert was in the pipeline to make its return tonight. However, no such announcement has been made as of now. It will be interesting to see if The Rock continues his tradition of dispensing social media rants before a show this week as well.
