Former NXT champion Carmelo Hayes is slowly, but steadily getting people’s attention. He is already a top star in NXT, delivering the best matches, and is involved in the best storylines. Now, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry believes he will be the next big superstar if he does one thing: just believe in himself.

Henry gave an interview with Busted Open Radio, where he said he feels that Carmelo will be the next big thing in WWE. But he said the only problem with him is that he doesn’t have that belief in him. Henry thinks people’s opinions affect him so much when they say Hayes is small; Hayes does not have that ‘IT’ factor.

He's the one, but I just don't think he believes. Because the world tells him he's not good enough... you're too small. They create the narratives. My experience tells me Carmelo Hayes is going to be the next one, and it has already started. Shawn Michaels chose him. It has already started, it's just the matter how you finish it.

Hayes was chosen by Shawn Michaels himself to participate in the 8-man tournament to determine the No. 1 contender for the U.S. Title. He won his round 1 match by defeating Grayson Waller on last week’s episode of SmackDown and progressed to the semifinals.

The 29-year-old rising star was interviewed after the show and was asked how he felt after the victory. He said he was so grateful to show what he could do on the bigger stage and is now even more excited to win the United States Championship. Hayes and Waller’s rivalry has been going on since their NXT days. Waller’s last match on NXT was with him before he got called up on the main roster.

It feels amazing. I mean Grayson Waller is somebody who I've wrestled time and time again, but to get toc do it on this big stage, I think I really made a statement. I'm glad I got to talk to Kevin for a second and just let him know that I'm not that guy. I am Carmelo Hayes, I am a former NXT Champion just like Kevin Owens, and one thing I won't do is bow down or back down from anybody.

Hayes further gave a warning to Kevin Owens, by saying he would bring out his best for him. Owens’ wrist was damaged by the duo of Austin Theory and Waller, so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top and qualifies for the finals of the tournament. The winner of the tournament will get a chance to become the No. 1 contender and challenge Logan Paul for the U.S. Title.
