Well, it seems like Matt Cardona has his sights set on Cody Rhodes. When being asked by a fan on Twitter about his favorite WWE name he’d like to face soon enough, the former namedropped The American Nightmare. Anyways, this shouldn’t be perceived as that much of a surprise. Of course at the moment, Cody Rhodes is the biggest name in WWE, after Roman Reigns.
As for the unversed, Cardona previously worked for WWE until 2020 under the ring name Zack Ryder. Before getting released due to budget cuts, the 37-year old was a main-feature on Monday nights. After receiving his exile from WWE, Cardona went to make some cameo appearances for All Elite Wrestling. Availing nothing out of that short-term deal, the New York native signed a full-length contract with Impact Wrestling.
After that he won the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship, Impact Digital a Medical Championship & GCW World Championship. All these accolades are a downgrade in terms of stature in regards to his achievements in WWE. Hence, he’s someone who should be brought back by Triple H without any rocket science. Plus, if happens, his match against The Nightmare in WWE will be something else.

Will Cody Rhodes vs. Matt Cardona happen this year?

As the saying, ‘Never say never’ catchphrase in professional wrestling lives intact till date. Given that Matt’s wife Chelsea Green has already put pen to paper. Her husband might actually sign a brand new deal with WWE. If that happens, Matt Cardona can get one step closer to Cody Rhodes. As for the latter, he recently won this year’s Men’s Royal Rumble match. Which means that he’s now set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Showcase of the Immortals.
Coming back to Rhodes vs. Cardona, it’s kind of a fantasy scenario at the moment. There’s no word on whether the former Intercontinental Champion will sign with the Stamford-based promotion. But, if he does make his comeback, things might turn out very differently this time around with Triple H as the creative spearhead.
