Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks, has been at the center of headlines for the past few weeks. Speculations regarding the 31-year-old’s future in professional wrestling are a heavy topic of discussion online. After reports emerged that AEW and Mone were no longer planning for the latter’s debut, many believed that she was likely headed to WWE. However, a new report has shed light on the situation between the two parties.

According to Fightful Select, Mercedes Mone is demanding a higher pay than Charlotte Flair. Recently, the latter supposedly signed one of the biggest contracts for a WWE female superstar. Therefore, many are under the belief that this might affect future contract negotiations with stars such as Becky Lynch.

Despite the ongoing rumors, Mone continues her road to recovery, recuperating from an ankle injury sustained in May. Many fans have speculated that if The Boss was to return, she would show up at the Royal Rumble PLE. Also, Mercedes Mone would fit directly into the ongoing Damage CTRL storyline, reuniting with her best friend, Bayley.

In her last appearance, Mone lost against Willow Nightingale in a tournament to crown the inaugural Strong Women’s Champion. During her short stint in NJPW, she competed against the likes of Kairi Sane. Furthermore, the former WWE star held the IWGP Women’s title for 64 days as well.

Why Mercedes Mone walked out of WWE?

On May 16, 2022, Sasha Banks and Naomi infamously walked out of WWE prior to a Raw episode. Due to growing frustrations over the booking of the women’s division, the reigning Tag Team Champions protested and left the arena.

The pair were scheduled to compete in a #1 contender’s match on the night. However, they believed it didn’t make sense for the Tag Team Champions to be involved in the bout. Therefore, Mone and Naomi handed their belts to then-Head of Talent Relations, John Laurinaitis, and walked out. Later, WWE revealed that both superstars were suspended.

Despite Vince McMahon’s departure, Mercedes Mone and Naomi couldn’t come to terms with an agreement with the company for a return. As a result, the former signed with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW). Meanwhile, Naomi joined Impact Wrestling in April 2023.
