WWE merged with the UFC under TKO Group Holdings this Tuesday. After the formation of a brand new Board of Directors, former WWE CEO Nick Khan will now serve as the company’s president. Moreover, Vince McMahon has gained ‘veto power’, which would enable him to make key decisions about the UFC too. Tonight’s Friday Night SmackDown marks the first WWE show under TKO’s acquisition.
However, as initially predicted by many, an employee layoff is coming at WWE. Nick Khan sent an internal memo informing his employees to work remotely on Friday. This is in conjuncture with Khan’s vision to let the company’s HR department enable the cuts privately, noted PWInsider. As of now, there’s no word on whether the cuts include WWE Superstars or not. Fans have already seen mass releases in the past that haunt them to this day.
Months ago, Nick Khan hinted at the company’s firm stance on firing on-screen talents, suggesting budget cuts might primarily target office staff rather than wrestlers. However, with several wrestlers not appearing on television for months, the situation remains uncertain.
In a nutshell, almost every other employee at WWE is currently walking on eggshells. Also, due to Triple H‘s exclusion from the director’s board for the first time since 2015, there were growing concerns about his creative role in WWE. However, he will retain his position as the Chief Content Officer of WWE, directly reporting to Nick Khan.
Moreover, he’s entitled to a huge bonus as well. Needless to say, Vince McMahon is always there to give his creative input. The entertainment business has entered a new era, and fans await the extravaganza.
Nick Khan has revamped WWE’s once declining market
Until a certain point, wrestling fans looked at Nick Khan as a proverbial hooligan. They believed a former TV host couldn’t cope with the ever-evolving nature of sports entertainment. However, once they made him the Chief Revenue Officer of WWE, he started displaying what he could do.
The company introduced new ways of doing business, switching over to the Peacock streaming platform from the once-used WWE Network in the United States. Also, pushing for WWE premium live events to happen on Saturdays was undoubtedly his biggest motive. He kept convincing the officials about the hidden potential of making such a transition.
Ever since then, they’ve been breaking their attendance records and booming viewership on Peacock. Moreover, another reform that Khan should be credited for is the jump in the number of international shows over the past couple of years. Overall, he’s been such a valuable asset for Vince McMahon and WWE.
