The road to WrestleMania gained a new twist on the latest episode of SmackDown. Royal Rumble winner, Cody Rhodes seemingly gifted his WrestleMania main event to the returning Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. As such, he won’t be facing Roman Reigns at the Showcase of Immortals. Later, reports emerged online that shed light on The American Nightmare’s new plans for the event.

PWInsider initially revealed that Cody Rhodes will now face the World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins, at WrestleMania. Now, Xero News has added to the report. According to the source, the match between the former rivals will be locked on Monday Night Raw. Furthermore, an Elimination Chamber match is being pitched to determine the third man, changing the World Title bout to a triple threat.

For months, the WrestleMania 39 rematch between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns had been locked. However, the sudden absences of CM Punk and Brock Lesnar supposedly led to The Rock “stepping in” and replacing Cody. The latter will now go after the championship that Roman referred to as the “loser bracket” title after he buried Seth Rollins on SmackDown.

This will mark their fourth match in WWE, with Rhodes already emerging victorious on all three previous occasions. Amid the Vince McMahon scandal, TKO presumably wanted to shift focus from the heinous allegations by adding The Rock to WrestleMania. On Thursday, all major stars will be present for the press event, where the main matches might be confirmed.

As WWE heads to its biggest event of the year, fans’ excitement dropped when The Rock seemingly took Cody Rhodes’ spot on SmackDown. Moreover, delaying the inevitable crowning moment for The American Nightmare. Now, the 38-year-old is most likely going after the World Heavyweight Championship on Raw. PWInsider’s report has detailed how the new plans might lead to another title unification at SummerSlam.

As per the report, there are pitches for Cody Rhodes to win the World Title at WrestleMania and then challenge the Undisputed Champion at SummerSlam. Hence, unifying both belts and finding a way to actually finish the story. 

Fans have patiently waited for the 38-year-old to achieve his dream for almost two years now. The segment on SmackDown understandably upset a major portion of the WWE Universe, as they believed it was Cody’s time at WrestleMania. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how things play out for Rhodes from here on out.
