Silencing her doubters, Rhea Ripley breezed past Becky Lynch to open WrestleMania 40. Both women were on the grind from the get-go. As mentioned by Michael Cole on commentary, The Man had been sick all week. The Women’s World Champion kept Lynch guessing as she gained an initial advantage. However, Becky soon shrugged off the butterflies in her stomach. The Irishwoman targeted Rhea’s injured arm in response.

The challenger was left agape when Ripley powered out of her patent Manhandle Slam. Just seconds later, Becky Lynch survived a Riptide, thus leveling the scoresheet. The Irish Lass Kicker locked the champ into a disarm-her but to no avail. Instead, The Eradicator reversed it into an electric chair at ringside. Rhea put the exclamation mark when she grounded the 37-year-old via yet another Riptide.

With that being said, Mami is all set to extend her reign of terror. She captured the then-SmackDown Women’s title from Charlotte Flair at last year’s WrestleMania. And tonight at the Lincoln Financial Field, at a freezing 11°C, the Aussie grappler reigned supreme again. Speaking of Becky, she did whatever she could but went down regardless.

However, going toe-to-toe with a menace like Rhea Ripley was never going to be easy. And to her woes, she had a strep throat, as alluded to earlier. Only time will tell where it all leads. With Ripley conquering her biggest bogey just yet, it might be smooth sailing for her on the red brand for a while. Meanwhile, for Lynch, it would be interesting to see when she renews her WWE contract that’s slated to expire in a couple of months.
