It is very natural for young stars to follow their idols. This was the case with Ricochet, who tried to copy one of the most iconic moments in wrestling history.

Ricochet recently took part in a “Miracle of 34th Street Fight” on a special holiday edition of WWE SmackDown. He teamed up with Braun Strowman to take on the Imperium (Ludwig Keiser and Giovanni Vinci). During the match, the SmackDown World Cup winner suffered a cut on his head that needed medical attention. Now, Ricochet has revealed that he didn’t want the doctors to wipe off the blood during the match. This was because he wanted to recreate the iconic moment from the Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin match from WrestleMania XIII.

In a conversation with Metro.co.uk, Ricochet talked about the match and his injury. He said, “Honestly because it was bleeding a lot, obviously the doctors are gonna come out and check on you. I was trying to actually [copy] Stone Cold, WrestleMania 13, [nodding vigorously] put it over my head, you know what I mean? They were like, ‘No, we can’t do that.’ Obviously, because they’re the doctors, they’re like, ‘We gotta make sure you’re ok, what are you doing?’ I’m like, ‘Stop wiping the blood,’ and they’re like, ‘No, we can’t, what are you doing?!’”

WWE has been a PG product since 2008. It has moved away from the blood and gore of the ruthless aggression and attitude era. This is why the fans rarely see any wrestler bleeding in matches, barring some accidents like that with Ricochet. After his match, Ricochet shared via Twitter that he got six stitches following his injury. While speaking with Metro UK, the former Intercontinental champion said that it wasn’t that serious and “it looked worse than it was because of the blood and everything.”

Ricochet has been a prominently featured star in the “new era” of SmackDown. Ever since Triple H took over, the WWE Universe has witnessed much longer and better matches on weekly TV. This change helped wrestlers like Ricochet show their skills and connect with the fans. The former NXT North American champion is slowly rising the ranks instead of undergoing a hard reset.

Starting with a feud with Happy Corbin, Ricochet went up the card to start a feud with the Intercontinental champion, Gunther. In December, he also won the SmackDown World Cup. In the tournament, the One and Only became the first person to defeat Braun Strowman since his return in September last year. He would go on to form an alliance with the Monster of All Monsters, continuing his feud with the Imperium on SmackDown.

Ricochet recently won the Royal Rumble qualifying match against Top Dolla. It will be an interesting sight to watch his athletic skills and high-flying abilities at the 30-man match on January 28th.
