Road Dogg reveals how he'd book the perfect WrestleMania 40 main event
Although WrestleMania 40 is still far away, speculations about what will headline the pop-culture extravaganza have already begun. That said, a top-level WWE official has also offered his two cents on the matter, and it is none other than WWE Hall of Famer, Road Dogg. He recently laid out his ideal booking scenario for the main event of the 40th anniversary of WrestleMania.
Speaking on his Oh…You Didn’t Know podcast, the WWE veteran instantly picked Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes Part-ll as the one. Road Dogg said he doesn’t know what else deserves to go over it unless something out-of-the-box pops up. Calling the story hot as fire, the SVP of WWE live events has put forward his ideal booking for the main event.
The WWE veteran wants Cody Rhodes to strive for redemption, which will mark the culmination of the story in Philadelphia next year. After that, Dogg also reflected on the massive fan outrage that transpired when Reigns beat Cody this year. Apparently, it was the right call.
The former New Age Outlaws member emphasized the fact that Rhodes has transformed into a bigger babyface ever since. Not only as a character but also as a real-life human being. And to a good point, Road Dogg’s not wrong. Fans haven’t lost a step on Cody; in fact, they’ve gotten more inclined towards The American Nightmare.
Every time he comes out on stage, he gets one of the loudest reactions of the entire night. He caters to each section of the fanbase. Therefore, the next time he stands eye-to-eye with Roman Reigns, the staredown will be epic. According to rumors, Rhodes vs Reigns is the match that will headline WrestleMania 40.
Should Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes main-event WrestleMania 40?
Nobody knows what the endgame of the ongoing turmoil in The Bloodline will be. Something needs to be figured out between Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa before The Tribal Chief eventually marches on towards WrestleMania 40. Once that’s done, WWE can actually focus on starting the build for Cody Rhodes‘ rematch against Roman Reigns. Not just for Road Dogg, WWE is actually planning for this WrestleMania rematch to happen in Philadelphia.
Rhodes has stated on multiple occasions that his story remains unfinished. In fact, WWE officials were so scared of the planned outcome for Reigns vs. Cody that they advised Rhodes not to check his social media after his match. However, they’re now reportedly convinced that putting Reigns over Cody at WrestleMania 39 was the right call, at least from a business standpoint.
As Reigns heads towards 1100 days as the World Champion, he’s already placed 4th on the list of longest WWE title reigns of all time. At some point, he needs to be taken down. And while nothing is certain at this point, Cody Rhodes looks to be the best option to end Reigns’ indomitable run as champion. WWE is doing everything in its power to make the fans believe that Rhodes is the guy.
He even received a Brock Lesnar endorsement at SummerSlam, which wasn’t planned at all. That moment proved how far The Prodigal Son has come since his previous runs with the company. Now, it remains to be seen whether WWE wants Cody Rhodes to burst onto the scene as the biggest babyface in wrestling since John Cena.
