The Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns, has not been scheduled for any match at Backlash. Recent reports indicate that WWE is looking for a new storyline angle for Reigns after WrestleMania 39. He defeated the American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes, to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Title with the help of Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman.
On the RAW after WrestleMania, Cody was brutally thrashed by Brock Lesnar. This suggests Cody will be involved in a new storyline with The Beast. So The American Nightmare will not get his rematch opportunity at Backlash.
The Tribal Chief is very close to completing the 1,000-day record for holding the Universal Championship. After Backlash PPV, there are King and Queen of the Ring, Battleground, Money in the Bank, and SummerSlam lined up. And according to recent rumors, Roman is already set to defend his title in all these pay-per-views.
The backlash PPV will be held in Puerto Rico, located in the USA territory where WWE is going to host a PPV event after 18 years. Although Roman Reigns’ fans are not happy that he will be missing the Backlash pay-per-view. According to the report from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Roman Reigns is already planned for the next premium events.
Roman Reigns has been in the main event of WrestleMania seven times
