“I WANTED OUT” The infamous ARREST of RVD, that ruined his career forever

Rob Van Dam or better known as RVD is one of the most celebrated high flyers of all time. His quick agility and athletic moves in the ring made him a fan favourite. RVD was probably at the peak of his career when one incident ruined it all for him.

Wrestler’s love for marijuana is not new, several wrestlers have openly admitted to have consumed weed. But RVD had to pay a huge price for it back in the day. The high flyer’s love for green was nothing new but he learnt the lesson hard way back in 2006.

RVD was arrested with Sabu for possession of Marijuana

RVD arrested
RVD was arrested for possession of 18 grams of marijuana and was suspended by WWE for 30 days amidst a great push.

He was enjoying a massive push perhaps the most significant one of his career as he had just won the WWE Championship from John Cena at One Night Stand and was the ECW Champion as well. But while returning from a show in West Virginia, Sabu and Rob Van Dam were travelling to Philadelphia in a car when they were pulled over by the cops for speeding.

It was all cool as the cops were also joking around with them but things got serious when the cop smelled something fishy and then performed the search inside the car and then “discovered RVD to be holding 18 grams of marijuana alongside five Vicodins while Sabu was found holding drug paraphernalia and nine tablets of Testolactone“.

Both the superstars’ arrest made Vince furious and especially of RVD as he was trying to portray him as the face of the company as the champion carries the goodwill. Rob Van Dam was suspended for 30 days but was allowed to wrestle for the upcoming ECW and RAW episodes as per WWE as a part of their internal investigation which would eventually allow RVD to drop both the titles.

And as expected RVD first dropped the WWE Championship to Edge at RAW in a triple threat match and then ECW Championship to Big Show. He didn’t receive such a huge push again and eventually left the company in 2007. Surprisingly, the former ECW Champion doesn’t regret getting arrested that night.

As in an interview with Baltimore Sun, RVD revealed that he had anyways been stripped of the title in a couple of months and not that he was going to become the longest WWE and ECW Champion. He said that the media highlighted the issue because he was the WWE Championship otherwise the matter wouldn’t have been highlighted.

Though he accepts that he was at the wrong place at the wrong time and made some people upset but only for that time. Because years later when he reflects upon it he says that it couldn’t have happened at a better time because he eventually wanted to leave the company anyway to spend more time at home.

Though he reveals he only had to pay only 100$ as per the bond but his 30 day suspension led to a loss of around 30000$-40000$.
