The legendary luchador Rey Mysterio has faced a lot of betrayals, whether it is by his friend, his son, or even his protege. This time, it was his own LWO stablemate, Santos Escobar. The former leader of Legado del Fantasma attacked Mysterio on the latest episode of SmackDown, leaving the WWE Universe baffled.

Following the shocking turn of events this week on SmackDown, Rey Mysterio underwent surgery. It is because Santos Escobar targeted his leg and brutally attacked it. The 39-year-old shared a picture of Mysterio’s plastered leg and sent a stern warning, telling him not to come back to WWE ever again.

Rey Mysterio revived the LWO earlier this year by taking Santos Escobar and his team under his wing. The faction has been in a feud with Bobby Lashley and the Street Profits lately. The team was later joined by the returning Carlito at WWE Payback. Last week on SmackDown, the 44-year-old made some serious allegations about Escobar.

Carlito accused Santos Escobar of intentionally leaving the brass knuckle on the ring. As a result, it helped Logan Paul capture the US Championship from Rey Mysterio using his heel tactics. The Caribbean Cool had a match this week on the blue brand, following which he was at the receiving end of a brutal beatdown from Bobby Lashley and Street Profits.

Santos Escobar was furious and didn’t help Carlito from the beatdown. As a result, Rey Mysterio came to the aid of his old friend. But the tension between him and Escobar escalated, leading the latter to attack the legendary luchador. The 39-year-old kicked Mysterio while he was trapped between the ring post and the right step.

Later that night, Escobar left the building and made a comment, saying, “Rey had it coming,” when asked about this situation. He appears to be let down by his idol, thinking that Mysterio trusts Carlito more than him. After this, Rey had knee surgery, and Escobar warned Mysterio against returning to WWE.

Santos Escobar seemingly helped Logan Paul win the United States Championship

Logan Paul challenged Rey Mysterio for the US Championship at WWE Crown Jewel. It was Santos Escobar who played a crucial role in the outcome of the match. The latter kept the brass knuckles in on the ring before driving away Paul’s shenanigans from the ringside. According to Carlito, the 39-year-old did that intentionally.

Speculations are that Escobar held a grudge against the legendary luchador for not receiving a proper title shot before Logan Paul. There is a good possibility that the 39-year-old did that on purpose by leaving the brass knuckle on the ring apron. It helped The Maverick defeat the Master of 619 and capture the coveted title.

Since Rey Mysterio has gone through surgery, the WWE Universe can expect to see Santos Escobar feuding against Carlito and maybe also the other members of LWO. And once Mysterio returns, he can challenge Escobar. The match between Mysterio and Escobar has the potential to be one of the greatest matches of their respective careers.
