The Brawling Brutes’ leader, Sheamus, has been away from WWE television for quite some time. He last wrestled a match against Edge on the August 18 episode of SmackDown. The Celtic Warrior has not been seen on WWE since then, and the fans are wondering why. Recent reports state that the former WWE Champion is out due to a shoulder injury.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, while discussing WWE roster cuts, mentioned Sheamus’ current status. He said that the Celtic Warrior is recovering from an injury at the moment. “By the way, Sheamus — really bad shoulder injury. That’s why he hasn’t been on TV or at the house shows,” Meltzer said.
Needless to say, Sheamus has a history of spinal injuries and was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. However, there is no detailed information on the nature of his current injury or how or when the reported injury happened. The 45-year-old wore a neck brace in one of the recently shared photographs by him on X.
The image shared by him shows the Celtic Warrior with his neck brace, chilling with his friends whilst watching Irish rugby. The former WWE Champion has an active social media presence. Moreover, he has over 950K subscribers on his Celtic Warrior Workouts YouTube channel.
The absence of the Celtic Warrior has not hindered The Brawling Brutes. On a recent episode of SmackDown, the faction faced off against the team of Austin Theory and Grayson Waller. Moreover, Butch showed up in NXT and is a part of NXT’s Global Heritage Invitational Tournament. He will face Joe Coffey in the finals of the Global Heritage Invitational.

Sheamus’ WWE contract expiring in early 2024
Sheamus is one of the most prominent superstars in this industry. He signed a 4-year contract with the Stamford-based promotion back in 2019. The contract will expire early next year. On his recent radio show, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful shed light on the status of Sheamus’ WWE contract.
He said, “Sheamus’ deal is up in 2024, specifically near the beginning of 2024. Someone even said that it is somewhere near when Drew’s deal is up.” It was also confirmed that Drew McIntyre has not re-signed his contract, which is reported to expire around the time of WrestleMania.
Sheamus, though 45, still puts on great matches. Time and time again, he has proven to be a great asset to the locker room. Fans are eager to see whether the Celtic Warrior re-signs with WWE or looks for other options. The prospect of him reuniting with his former tag team partner Claudio Castagnoli is still open.
The wrestling fans want the two superstars to team up and re-form The Bar at some point in their careers if the Celtic Warrior bids adieu to WWE. It is noteworthy that along with Sheamus and Drew McIntyre, big names like Becky Lynch and superstars’ contracts are also expiring in 2024.
