Former WWE Champion throws shade at Gunther by sending three-word message ahead of WrestleMania 40
Sheamus claims Gunther tapped out during their match on SmackDown.

Sheamus is considered to be one of the best wrestlers in WWE. His last match happened in Toronto, Canada, where former WWE Superstar Adam “Edge” Copeland defeated him in his final match. Since then, it has been reported that the Irish wrestler has injured his shoulder, which has forced him out of action. During Gunther‘s Intercontinental Title reign, The Celtic Warrior was one of his biggest challengers.
Recently, Sheamus took to X to remind the WWE Universe how Gunther tapped out during one of their bouts for the title. The video clip shows a title match between the two on SmackDown. Although The Ring General indeed tapped, he only tapped twice. According to WWE’s rules and regulations, a wrestler must tap at least three times to conclude a submission victory.

As a result of the misunderstanding, the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion seized the opportunity and retained his coveted title. Since then, the 46-year-old Superstar has taken shots at how the champ cleverly stole the victory. Recently, the SmackDown Superstar expressed his desire to get a rematch with his arch-rival upon his return.
The arch rivals had a show-stealing match at Clash at the Castle in 2022. The fans in Cardiff, Wales, heavily rooted for The Great White to pick up the victory. After a splendid classic match, Gunther was able to defeat him. After their match, The Celtic Conqueror received a massive reception from the WWE Universe for his efforts.
Sheamus to begin his new WWE run upon return
Sheamus’s faction, The Brawling Brutes, is no more after his protèges Ridge Holland and Butch have gone their own ways. Ridge has joined NXT and is on his singles run. Meanwhile, Butch has adopted his former in-ring name, Pete Dunne and joined forces with Tyler Bate. Their new tag team name is “New Catch Republic.”.

With The Celtic King’s return coming closer, it seems that the veteran Superstar will start his new route afresh. During his inactive time, Sheamus has openly taken shots at Gunther. Therefore, it appears that the 4-time WWE Champion will target the I.C. Champion upon his return.
The 3-time United States Champion might look to reform his faction and recruit Tyler Bate as well. With Sheamus injured, WWE might want to clear the air around Holland by having him perform at NXT. The Celtic Warrior may form a much better faction this time with an increased number of superstars.
