Daria Berenato, aka Sonya Deville, has announced her engagement with her girlfriend Toni Cassano. The former MMA fighter is the first openly gay female wrestler in WWE, coming out publicly on Season 6 of Tough Enough. Deville popped the question to her lover on February 15. However, she announced it to the public in a recent interview.

While in conversation with PEOPLE, Sonya Deville revealed how it all went down when she proposed to her girlfriend with a custom-designed ring. The WWE superstar said, “I proposed, then Toni’s like, ‘Grab my purse.’ And she pulls out a freaking ring box, and she’s like, ‘I’ve been carrying this around in my purse for four months. So whenever you proposed, I could give you a ring immediately back.'”

The SmackDown superstar also talked about her fiance’s two daughters and how she accepted them as her own family, “forever together.” Sonya Deville wanted this once-in-a-lifetime moment to be “epic” for both of them. This is why she spent months designing the ring for Cassano.

Deville adds, “I could go on for days about the way I feel about this woman, I never knew love could feel so happy and safe all at the same time. I found my best friend, my soul mate and my life partner all in one incredible human. She is the epitome of my ride-or-die.”

The happy couple first met in April last year. Sonya Deville had given her new partner front-row tickets to one of her live shows. While they had plans to go out for dinner that night, the WWE superstar reveals that the event went too late and they went to a bar instead. She recalled the first date with Toni and said, “I knew [she was the one] the second I saw her.” The 29-year-old star also described her fiance as “most grounded, cool, beautiful, and humble.”

Sonya Deville also traced her journey as an openly gay WWE superstar. While she had problems disclosing her relations at first, she said she eventually got comfortable with being openly gay. She thanked her fans who had followed her journey from the start. Furthermore, Deville sent out a lovely message to all of them, saying that everyone should accept themselves for who they are and should love whomever they want to love, just like her.
