“I am a competitor”: Sonya Deville reacts to her latest Championship match

Deville

Sonya Deville is a professional wrestler, who is currently seen performing across WWE brands – in an on-screen authority role. The WWE Universe started recognizing her, after she had appeared in the 2015 season of WWE Tough Enough. Since then she has been with the company and was initially a part of the NXT roster.

In 2017, Deville moved up to the main roster – and was a part of Absolution, a stable including Mandy Rose and Paige. She then went on to form a Tag Team named Fire and Desire with Rose. In fact, one of the most iconic feuds of her career came against Rose – which concluded with the Loser Leaves WWE match.

Post her loss, Sonya Deville went on a break from the company – to focus on some personal issues in her life. She returned to the company in January 2021, but not as a professional wrestler. This time she was an assistant to WWE official Adam Pearce. But over time, she has now become an individual who seems to have authority on par with Pearce.

Recently she revealed herself to be the next challenger for the Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair. The duo collided on the latest episode of RAW. Surprisingly, the match was restarted thrice – which could be seen as abuse of power by many! But fortunately, the EST of WWE managed to emerge victorious across the three instances.

There was no doubt that the WWE Universe booed Sonya Deville as she misused her authority to restart the match. But while speaking on the latest episode of RAW Talk, Deville reacted to the backlash she received for her moves. “I have done everything by the book since day 1. I am a competitor and a WWE official, and it’s not up to anybody else besides myself to decide when I am which one of those things,” she mentioned.

Deville restarted her match twice

The latest episode of RAW, aired live from Bianca Belair’s hometown of Knoxville. The highlight of the night was Randy Orton’s 20 year celebration but it also had the Raw Women’s Championship on the line. But in a clear abuse of power, Sonya Deville had the match restarted the twice.

At first, she got counted out and announced that it’s a No Count Outs match. Deville was then disqualified for using the steel chair, but she then announced that it will be a No Disqualification Match. Carmella and Queen Zelina even came out to help her – but even then, the EST of WWE managed to retain her title.
