“It’s all about the drama” Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone gives a shout-out to WWE Hall of Famer while reflecting on his love for pro-wrestling

Sylvester Stallone, the man needs no introduction as he is one of the OGs of Hollywood. The actor who started his career by portraying roles as an extra and was mainly seen in side roles has gone on to become the greatest action hero of all time. Sylvester who has played the role of a boxer in many of his films such as Rocky, Creed, Grudge Match, and Bleeder, have gone on to become the greatest hits of all time.
Now in the latest interview, the Academy Award winner has reflected upon the influence of pro wrestling on his career. Sylvester Stallone revealed how he has always been influenced by pro wrestling and the high-tension drama and intense passion of superstars is what he admires and tries to channelize it in his character. He also gave a shoutout to WWE Hall of Famer Bruno Sammartino and described him as one of his greatest inspirations.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated Stallone spoke- “I love wrestling…It’s all about getting swept up in the drama. There’s a passion for that world, big time. People like Bruno Sammartino, those are people that helped forge my personality and my outlook on life. Bruno, Gorgeous George, Steve Reeves, Rocky Marciano—especially Rocky Marciano. I love wrestling’s mythic qualities.”
Along with Bruno Sammartino, he mentioned other notable actors and boxers who had a significant impact on his career. Additionally, he also mentioned that he made his daughters watch pro-wrestling so that they could understand the aspects of storytelling and drama. Sylvester’s love for pro-wrestling can also be judged by the fact that he has worked with many WWE legends and Hall of Famers throughout his film career.
These include the likes of Batista, Hulk Hogan, John Cena, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Sylvester Stallone also commented on people who say pro wrestling is not real. Expressing his disappointment at the remark, Sylvester said-“I understand what goes into it. I hear people say it’s not real. Really? Gravity is real. Jumping off the top rope or having 300 pounds landing on you, that’s real. I feel the same way about action films…I consider it very real…It’s entertainment… It’s a morality play, all about the drama. That’s what it’s all about,”
Sylvester drew parallels between action films and pro-wrestling and said both involve real risk-taking and both are meant for entertainment. He especially paid attention to dramatic elements involved in both industries and said that both are indeed real but it’s all about the drama.
