“Blowing everybody away in every trial”- DDP reveals the advice he gave to the Boogeyman regarding lying of his age to WWE Officials in 2004
The Boogeyman and DDP
The Boogeyman is one of the creepiest WWE Superstars of all time. The Boogeyman is one of the most underrated characters in the history of WWE and it has certainly not being understood until now why the character wasn’t developed more and explored. The Boogeyman’s commitment to his character was impeccable and was indeed scary to the kids. He was a solid in ring worker as well but wasn’t pushed by the company and his career didn’t hit the heights that other dark characters managed to do.
The Boogeyman entered the world of WWE in 2004, when he took part in the fourth season of tough enough. He was chosen among the eight finalists and even survived the first elimination but was cut out from the competition when the Judges came to know that he is 40 years old, which exceeded the competition’s age limit by five years. Thereafter he joined the OVW after being invited by WWE.
The Boogeyman began appearing in WWE in July 2005 at Backstage and screaming his catchphrase I’m The Boogeyman and I’m comin’ to get’cha. He made his in ring debut against Simon dean in December 2005. He departed from the company in 2009 and returned in 2012, after which he began making sporadic appearances until 2021.

The Boogeyman had revealed what Vince McMahon felt about his character
In 2020, during an appearance on the Ryback show, The Boogeyman described how Vince McMahon instructed him to stand in the center of the ring after ordering everyone to assemble during a production meeting. He recalled how Vince had frightened the group by warning them that Boogeyman ate worms and that they should all be afraid of him.
The Boogeyman also recalled that Vince had given him the go-ahead to frighten everyone, and that if they didn’t fear him, Vince had remarked that everyone had the potential to perform the same feats. He went on to say that The Undertaker, Benoit, Big Show and all the big names were around the ring and that was the moment he knew Vince had big plans for The Boogeyman.
In the latest edition of DDP Snake Pit Podcast, WWE Hall of Famer DDP has disclosed details of the conversation he had with Boogeyman in 2004, when the latter attempted to join the company through its reality show Tough Enough. DDP revealed how The Boogeyman asked him his opinion on whether he should lie about his age as he was 40 years old, which was well over the company’s age limit to join the show. DDP said that The Boogeyman looked as if he was 28 and was acing every trial. DDP said that he advised him to tell the truth about his age.
“He was 40, [but] looked like he was 28! And blowing everybody away in every trial. And he goes, ‘But, I’m 40, what do you think? Should I tell them my real age? What I said was I said honesty is always the best policy,” revealed DDP.But you’re kind of right on that too, but I don’t know, man. The way you look and what you can do, me, personally, I’d freaking tell them.”
Nevertheless, the fact that The Boogeyman was a rookie at 40 years of age and then went on to make it on the main roster is really inspiring.
