This week’s SmackDown ended with Royal Rumble winner, Cody Rhodes, confronting WWE Undisputed Universal Champion, Roman Reigns. The American Nightmare made it clear that he wanted that title. However, in a shocking move, he revealed it wouldn’t be at WrestleMania. As fans tried to understand what that meant, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson‘s music hit.

The Great One returned on SmackDown and finally got in the same ring as The Tribal Chief. Prior to the face-off, The Rock whispered something in Cody Rhodes’ ear before the latter left the ring. Thereafter, the two cousins came face-to-face while the crowd chanted, “This is awesome.” A graphic advertising a WrestleMania press conference showed on the screen as the show went off-the-air.

Needless to say, this seemingly confirmed that the ‘dream’ match will take place at this year’s Showcase of Immortals. Moreover, this means Cody Rhodes won’t finish his story at WrestleMania, opting to postpone his opportunity for a later date. In addition to that, the 38-year-old might’ve gifted his shot at Roman Reigns to The Rock.

The buildup started when The People’s Champion appeared on Raw Day 1 and called out The Head of the Table. Later, rumors and speculations arose online about the potential match between Reigns and Dwayne. When Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble, many believed it wasn’t meant to be this year. However, this has now changed, and the match may have been locked for this year’s WrestleMania main event.

Wrestling fans react to The Rock and Roman Reigns coming face-to-face

The possibility of a match between The Rock and Roman Reigns has always garnered excitement and buzz on the internet. Therefore, when the pair finally stood in the same ring for the first time in almost a decade, fans expressed their elation online. Understandably, this stems from getting to see a titanic clash between two of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time.

Despite the match looking inevitable for WrestleMania, there were polarizing opinions online. Most notably, fans expressed their sympathy for Cody Rhodes, who has been, in many eyes, the face of the current booming period of WWE. As such, there was anger and frustration over the decision to sideline his ‘crowning’ moment for the ‘dream’ match.

Meanwhile, others are genuinely excited to see this match finally take place after years of speculation. Fans pointed out how the live audience was ecstatic to see the two icons in the same ring. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see what lies ahead for the Road to WrestleMania.
