“AJ is a person I have looked up to for a long” – When Former Universal Champion manifested his splendid admiration over AJ Styles

AJ Styles gets praised by almost every opponent he goes up against with

AJ Styles has travelled all around the world in pursuit of his never ending hunger for professional wrestling. Today, he’s considered as one of the best wrestlers of all-time and it looks like he ain’t stopping anytime soon. Styles had his destiny written all by himself as the former WWE Champion initially competed on the independent circuit before coming in to comparatively bigger platforms.

After gaining some much needed mainstream attention, Styles debuted for Total Nonstop Action (TNA) in 2002 where he worked against some of the best competitors studded by the likes of The Icon Sting, Rhino, Samoa Joe just to name a few of them with the biggest rival of “The Phenomenal One” being Christopher Daniels. He recently called his match against Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels from 2005 as a “game-changer” in a special video appearance he made during TNA’s Slammiversary event.

After having an long-standing illustrious career with TNA he finally left the promotion in 2014 before joining New Japan Pro-wrestling. He was also the part of The Bullet Club alongside Kenny Omega and Prince Devitt (now Finn Balor) in NJPW. Potentially the biggest name in New Japan’s history, “The Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada also had quite a rivalry with AJ Styles which led to a match between them at Reality of Wrestling in 2015.

In WWE, Styles has been 2-time WWE Champion in addition to a 3-time US Champion holding the Intercontinental Title one time too. He began a feud with Former Universal Champion Seth Rollins after the latter demanded a new challenger for his newly won title back at Wrestlemania 35 after defeating Brock Lesnar. At the Money in the Bank pay-per-view event these two athletes finally crosses their paths in a much-awaited contest. Rollins went onto gain a massive victory over Styles when he defeated him after executing a curb stomp.

Afterwards during an interview to The National, Seth Rollins heaped a ton of praise for the Phenomenal One even calling him as the one he looks upto. He went onto say,

“It was a great way to kick off my Universal Championship reign, which I hope will be filled with many successful title defenses. AJ is a person I have looked up to for a long, long time so to be able to go out there, beat him, and get a handshake afterwards was a really special thing.”

Calling AJ Styles as one of his admirations, Rollins claimed that their match was a long-time coming and beating him to get a handshake afterwards was a really special moment.

It would be fair enough to say that so far 2022 has not been the year for AJ Styles as far as his previous accomplishments goes. Although he was involved in a dream program with WWE Hall of Famer Edge which started off on the road to Wrestlemania and culminated recently at Hell in a Cell, Styles was unable to put down the Master Manipulator even for once.

Styles lost against Edge at Wrestlemania following a distraction from Damian Priest. He got his rematch at the very next event Wrestlemania Backlash but again failed to capatilise on the opportunity as he lost once again after a masked person costed him the match against Edge which was later revealed to be Rhea Ripley.

Edge recruited both Priest and Ripley as the members for his faction “The Judgement Day” just to get kicked out of the group two weeks earlier where he was replaced by Finn Balor as the new leader of the villainous association.
