WWE advertised a few matches before this week’s Friday Night SmackDown in Lafayette, LA. This strategy of WWE was to hype up the event in the prior week to gain the audience’s attention. It was reported earlier about Vince McMahon’s interference in WWE’s creative plans. Thus, the June 23 episode of SmackDown also saw many matches canceled at the last minute.

Fightful has provided an update on the last-minute changes that took place this week on SmackDown, calling them Vince McMahon’s decision. With McMahon’s involvement, nearly half of the announced matches were changed drastically at the eleventh hour. It was reported earlier that the former WWE Chairman has been paying attention to the creative plans again. Even after stepping down from the CEO position, he made his return to the creative section only a few months earlier.

The major alteration was the match between Bayley and Shotzi. It was supposed to have implications on the Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. . A rematch between Cameron Grimes and Baron Corbin was also scrapped by the former WWE Chairman. Only one match was modified from the announced triple threat match to a singles match.

The original match was scheduled between Money in the Bank participants Butch, Santos Escobar, and LA Knight. However, it did not happen, and Rey Mysterio battled LA Knight instead. The aftermath of Vince’s change made the audience’s understanding of the situation chaotic. The switched matches resulted in even the stars getting frustrated with the unorganized schedule.

As a result, Bayley reacted to her trimmed match and showed disappointment on Twitter. Vince McMahon has been interfering much in the creative process lately. The WWE Universe hopes for the next episode of SmackDown to be unaltered, as it will be a remarkable one airing from London.
