WWE Hall of Famer Booker T has been long retired from in-ring competition. However, it looks like he’s not going to be away from the wrestling industry forever. Being an out-and-out WWE guy, he has spoken about AEW many times before. Recently, in an interview, King Booker criticized AEW for their style of matches.
Speaking on the Reality of Wrestling podcast, Booker T said he does not watch much AEW, but whenever he watches it, it’s really hard to watch because it seems so unrealistic.
He further added that the wrestlers of AEW fight like video games, where anybody can defeat anybody, and wrestlers can kick out a devastating finisher multiple times. Booker also accepted that the wrestling style in AEW is different, and he does not watch wrestling like that.
One prime example of this is the Young Bunks using Superkicks. Legends like Undertaker and Triple H also agreed that Superkick is so overused now. He also took a shot at AEW by mocking them for drawing good ratings without mentioning WWE on their shows. Many fans also feel the same as Booker, as sometimes wrestlers just perform high-flying moves constantly but don’t get any kind of result from those moves.
The ratings war between WWE and AEW has gone in the favor of WWE. CM Punk was one of the reasons behind the ratings boost, as he joined his old company after his release from AEW. However, AEW has also brought some exciting young talents like Will Ospreay, regarded as the future of pro wrestling by many, and experienced veterans like Edge. It will be exciting to see whether All Elite Wrestling can pick themselves up after the loss of Punk or not.
Fans shared their opinions about Booker T’s statement about AEW
Fans showed mixed feelings about Booker T’s opinion on AEW wrestling style. While the majority of fans sided with him, some of the fans criticized the 58-year-old and mocked him for always taking WWE’s side.
Some fans did not agree with him and said WWE is no different, they find it difficult and unbelievable to watch the show. Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:
One fan accused Booker of becoming WWE’s mouthpiece, as he often criticizes the AEW program and their wrestling style. Another fan somewhat agreed with him but also said that this type of match should happen on bigger stages like WrestleMania, where excitement and surprise factors come into play.
A lot of fans just neglected his comments by saying both companies are the same and by giving an example of the match that happened between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 34, where Roman kicked out five F5s delivered by Lesnar.
