“The Face of WWE,” WWE legend seemingly takes a shot at Roman Reigns for his legendary reign
A WWE legend declared himself as the eternal "face of WWE" in his latest tweet. This is seemingly a dig at the current "face" of the company Roman Reigns.
Roman Reigns as the Universal Champion (via WWE)
Roman Reigns has been the Undisputed WWE Universal champion for a record 863 days and counting. This is the longest world championship reign of the modern era. The Roman Reigns project seems to be working now that he has turned heel and adopted the gimmick of the Tribal chief. He is the biggest star and the “face” of WWE. However, in a recent social media post, WWE legend Iron Sheik declared himself the face of WWE.
The Iron Sheik took to Twitter to share a photo of himself sitting on a golden throne, captioned “THE FACE OF THE WWE NOW THEN AND FOREVER JABRONI”. It is not clear who the WWE legend is calling Jabroni, but claiming to be the ‘eternal face of WWE’ is most likely a dig at Roman Reigns.
The Iron Sheik was a prominent name in the wrestling industry in the 70s and 80s. He was on and off with the WWF (now WWE) back then. He even wrestled for other big promotions around that time, such as the NWA and WCW. The character of the Iron Sheik was presented as a foreigner heel who often teamed up with another foreigner, Nikolai Volkoff. They even held the WWE tag team titles during their run. His biggest achievement was winning the WWF World Heavyweight Championship (now the WWE championship) in 1983. The WWE Hall of Famer made his last appearance in the company in 2010 in an old-school-themed edition of Monday Night Raw.
Roman Reigns’ record-breaking championship reign
After years of being pushed as a babyface, Roman Reigns finally turned heel on his return at SummerSlam 2020. This refreshing gimmick change was welcomed by the fans as he won the Universal Championship at Payback the following week. He then had a match with Jey Uso at Clash of Champions, followed by another grueling “I Quit” Hell in a Cell match between the brothers. After the feud was over, the Usos were forced to acknowledge Reigns as the Tribal chief.
During his dominant reign, the Universal champion defeated the likes of Daniel Bryan, Kevin Owens, Edge, Cesaro, John Cena, Braun Strowman, and many others. At WrestleMania 38, Roman Reigns defeated the WWE champion Brock Lesnar in a “Winner Takes All” match, thereby unifying the WWE and Universal championships in the process.
Currently, Roman Reigns is involved in a storyline with Kevin Owens, whom he is going to face at the Royal Rumble. Fans are also loving the chemistry between the Bloodline and the honorary Uce Sami Zayn. As the Royal Rumble season approaches, we will have to see who wins the 30-man match and challenges the Tribal Chief at WrestleMania. If certain rumors are to be believed, The Rock or Cody Rhodes could return to the match to win it.
In case you missed it!
