Belair and Ripley celebrated with Gonzalez
The episode of WWE NXT is the first episode of the black and gold brand since the switch to Tuesday nights. This was also the fallout episode for the two-night NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.
WWE NXT Champion Karrion Kross’ segment
Karrion Kross defeated Finn Balor at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night Two to become the new WWE NXT Champion. Kross made his way to the ring with Scarlet.
Kross acknowledged Balor and called him one of the greatest to ever step inside the ring. He was almost invincible until he ran into Kross. Balor had claimed that Kross had no control over his emotions. But Kross aimed his fury at Balor and won the title.
Nobody had the hunger to win like Kross did. But he vowed to be a fighting Champion. Anybody from the roster can challenge him for the title, in the end he will knock everyone down.
MSK def. Killian Dain and Drake Maverick (retain WWE NXT Tag Team Championship)
MSK won the titles at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver and this was their first title defense. Killian Dain kicked off the match against Nash Carter. Dain attacked Carter with Drake Maverick as a weapon.
MSK took Maverick to their corner, and went completely berserk. They came to a halt when Dain got back into the match. But MSK managed to regain control again as Dain tagged out. Carter dropped Drake Maverick with a dropkick to the knees and a German suplex.
Wes Lee and Nash Carter hit the Hot Fire Flame, but the pin was broken up by Dain. He hit the phenomenal Spiral Tap.
Dain dropped Carter with a powerbomb. Before he could drop Maverick on top of him, Lee pulled carter out of the way. Dain was hit with a springboard cutter and rolling kick combination. They then hit Maverick with the spinebuster/blockbuster finisher for the win.
After the match, Imperium attacked Killian Dain after MSK left.
Mercedes Martinez def. Jessi Kamea
Jessi Kamea used her size advantage to get the early upper hand. But Mercedes Martinez rocked Kamea with a flying knee followed by a Death Valley Driver for the win.
Martinez rushed to Robert Stone after the match and took the money that he owed her. She then went to Vic Joseph to send a message to the new NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez. She congratulated Gonzalez, but said that her days as champion were numbered.
Kushida def. Santos Escobar (New Cruiserweight Champion)
Santos Escobar defeated Jordan Devlin at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver in a ladder match to unify the Championships. He issued an open challenge for the title. Kushida answered the challenge,
Santos Escobar told his LGD boys that Kushida was a loser. But Kusida hit him with a a running dropkick. Escobar and Kushida traded counter-for-counter. Escobar managed to take control when they moved to the floor.
Kushida was bounced around ringside and sent into the apron and plexiglass. Escobar drove Kushida into the steps before locking him in a high-angle Boston Crab. Kushida was hit with nasty elbows and knees to the jaw, back into the ring.
A flying double knee in the corner sandwiched Kushida followed by a hurricanrana. Kushida responded with an inverted atomic drop, snapmare and dropkick.
Escobar countered suplex, and the two wrestlers laid each other out with a series of kicks. The handspring back elbow was countered with a backstabber. Kushida turned a Phantom Driver into a sunset flip. Kushida got a jackknife pin for the win to become the new NXT Cruiserweight Champion.
Championship celebrations
Dakota Kai introduced her best friend and new NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez to the CWC. A year and a half ago, Gonzalez was supposed to debut on the first episode of NXT on the USA Network. However, she was told that she simply wasn’t ready.
That lit a fire under her, and Gonzalez busted her tail to finally prove herself. Big Mami Cool praised the woman that believed in her, Dakota Kai. Without her, Gonzalez wouldn’t debut at NXT TakeOver: Portland and become the inaugural NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions.
In fact, Raquel wouldn’t be standing here with the gold it was not for Kai. The Captain of Team Kick nearly teared up but applauded her friend.
Frank Monet debuts
Taya Valkyrie aka Franky Monet introduced herself to the NXT crowd, the Women’s Champion and the world. She mentioned that the best women’s division in the world just got a whole lot better.
Championship celebrations
As Monet left, WWE Raw Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley entered. She came down to celebrate with Raquel Gonzalez. That wasn’t all. Smackdown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair was here too.
The three Champions posed in the ring with their titles as “NXT” chants filled the arena.
Roderick Strong quits NXT
NXT GM Wiliam Regal went to his office where Roderick Strong and his wife Marina Shafir were waiting. The former Undisputed Era member was there to hand in his notice, and said he was leaving NXT.
Regal said that times between himself and UE were rough, but Strong has always been a professional and would be welcomed back with open arms if he ever wished to return.
Isaiah “Swerve” Scott def. Leon Ruff
Leon Ruff rushed Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and dropped him on his shoulder with a leg whip. A dropkick to the shoulder and another drop left Swerve screaming in pain. Scott caught Ruff on the apron with a chop.
A Russian leg sweep sent Ruff to the floor, and Swerve followed up with a pump kick that knocked Ruff out cold.
Scott was seen taunting Ruff in the corner. But Leon had enough, and fought back. A springboard cutter sent Swerve to the floor where he was hit with a dive off the top.
They fought to the top, where Ruff hit a stunning top rope hurricanrana that nearly sent Swerve across the ring. Swerve went for the death valley driver into the corner, but it was countered with a head scissors.
Swerve moved to the top, and countered another hurricanrana with an alley oop into the top turnbuckle. The JML Driver put Ruff away for the win.
Dexter Lumis, Bronson Reed, Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon def. The Way
Austin Theory started off against Dexter Lumis. Theory was quickly overwhelmed by the Tortured Artist of NXT. He went to tag out but stopped when Indi Hartwell tried to tag in. Candice LeRae tagged in instead and was blindsided with a flying single-leg dropkick from Ember Moon.
LeRae was saved by Johnny Gargano. Lumis was tagged in by Moon, and he hammered Gargano and Theory. Indi Hartwell attempted to kiss Lumis, but she was pulled off the apron by LeRae.
Theory and Gargano brought down Lumis. Ember Moon hit Gargano with a suicide dive, while LeRae spiked Lumis on the floor with a flying tornado DDT.
Blackheart demanded Reed use her as a weapon, and he launched the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion onto the crowd. Lumis locked Gargano in The Silence. However, Hartwell distracted him by falling over in the ring.
Lumis broke his hold and seemed to have compassion for Hartwell. Austin Theory rocked him with a boot to the head but was attacked by Indi Hartwell. Lumis, still thinking she was unconscious, took her to the back.
Reed rocked Theory with a big forearm. Reed set up for the Tsunami but Gargano and LeRae blocked him. Gargano was sent crashing onto Theory, and Blackheart tossed LeRae on top of him as well. After LeRae was sent to the floor, Reed hit Theory with the Tsunami for the win.
