WWE Summerslam 2021 has one of the most packed cards for any WWE event that we have seen in along time. Additionally, WWE has even managed to get significant heat in almost each of the storylines.
Barring the Raw Tag Team Championship and the Intercontinental Championship, every major WWE title is going to be on the line at “The Biggest Party of the Summer”– WWE Summerslam 2021. While most of these matches have gotten the fans hooked, one feud that currently seems like the weakest part of the event is for the WWE United States Championship.
The Championship currently sits on The Celtic Warrior Sheamus’ shoulder, who had won the title earlier this year at Wrestlemania 37 from Riddle. But the issue is that Damian Priest has never seen like a threat to Sheamus, throughout this rivalry.
In fact, the WWE Universe must find it really hard to get behind Priest has he is yet to do something noteworthy on the main roster. Since debuting on the main roster, Damian Priest has feuded only against The Miz and John Morrison. But the focus of this rivalry was majorly the Grammy-winning rapper Bad Bunny! Hence, Priest never really had the time to shine.
This hints towards the part that Sheamus might manage to successfully retain the WWE United States Championship. WWE needs to take some time to rebuild Priest and then consider him for a Championship role.
Possible challengers for Sheamus after WWE Summerslam 2021
Sheamus is likely to retain the US title at WWE Summerslam 2021 and it might be a good idea to end this directionless feud post-Summerslam. But the question that arises – Who will be Sheamus’ next challenger. Considering the current storylines on the Red-brand, there are two likely opponents for The Celtic Warrior.
Elias Is a top contender for the title. While his previous gimmick of being a musician might be appreciated by many, WWE hinted on the latest episode of Raw that Elias will be undergoing a change of character. This makes him a top Challenger for the title. It would benefit him if he gets a high-profile feud to debut the changed gimmick.
Another challenger could be Jeff Hardy. He is one of the legends of the business, but currently it seems like WWE isn’t able to figure out what to do next with him. Its high time now that we see Jeff Hardy in the title scene once again. A couple of weeks back it seemed like Hardy is getting a push, when he became the first WWE Superstar to defeat NXT Champion Karrion Kross. But that turned out to be a one-off thing. This rivalry between Hardy and Sheamus is less likely, considering they were already a part of a controversial storyline recently.
WWE Summerslam 2021 airs live on 21st August.
