The History of the Royal Rumble Match

The History of the Royal Rumble Match

Wrestlemania is known as the WWE’s World Series or Superbowl, but the Royal Rumble is regarded as the play-offs. It’s the first step toward Wrestlemania. It’s what gives us at least one world title contender and kicks off the road to Wrestlemania. The Royal Rumble pay-per-view this year is scheduled to be on January 30th.

Hence, let’s kick off our road to the Rumble event by learning about the history of the Royal Rumble match.

Pat Patterson, who came up with the initial idea for this match, deserves credit for the ruckus. The match is set up so that thirty people enter the ring at regular intervals, basically 90 seconds.

It all starts with the first two people in the ring. The rumble is an elimination match in which a competitor may only be eliminated by going over the top rope with both feet on the floor. A participant’s elimination is only validated by the referee if he sees that he has been knocked out off the top road with both his feet touching the floor.

Referee – Man of the Moment

Royal Rumble winner Asuka

There have been instances in the past where the referees did not see “Stone Cold” Steve Austin contact the ground. Some wrestlers have even gone beneath the ropes and returned afterwards; Vince McMahon and Steve Austin are two examples of this. The victor of the Royal Rumble will compete for the WWE Championship in the main event at Wrestlemania.

Each year, the winners of the Royal Rumble receive a shot at the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. In 2018, a women’s edition of the multi-person competition debuted, with Asuka winning for the first time.

Except for in 2006, when it was in the midst of the programme, the Royal Rumble match is usually the main event of the pay-per-view. Aside from the rumble match, the pay-per-view Royal Rumble usually features WWE Championship matches, as well as additional matches. There is no disputing that the Royal Rumble is one of the most awaited pay-per-views for any WWE enthusiast.

Its significance to WWE superstars is roughly equal to that of Wrestlemania.
