What does the future hold for Big E after dropping the WWE title to Brock Lesnar on Day 1?

At tonight’s WWE Day 1 pay-per-view (PPV) at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, Big E was scheduled to defend his WWE championship. Seth Freakin’ Rollins, Kevin Owens, and Bobby Lashley were initially supposed to compete in a Fatal 4-way match.
However, hours before the show could commence, it was revealed that the WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns was tested positive for COVID-19, hence, making himself unavailable for his match against the Beast Brock Lesnar which was originally supposed to headline the show.
How was the match set-up?

At the end of November, Seth Freakin’ Rollins conquered a ladder match on Raw to become the #1 contender for Big E’s WWE championship on Day 1. It was supposed to be a one-on-one contest but Kevin Owens took advantage of this situation and outfoxed Rollins, resulting in KO joining the bout as a triple threat. But the excitement didn’t stop there, as former WWE champion Bobby Lashley went on to defeat all three of these competitors in one night on Raw to earn his place in the Fatal 4-Way.
Think that’s enough? No, not at all. The unfortunate instance of Roman Reigns getting tested COVID-19 positive made Brock Lesnar enter the WWE title match making it a fatal-5 way. And guess what? The Beast came out on top and hence crowning himself the new WWE Champion.
Big E’s push ended in the most unexpected manner!

So far as a champion, Big E has won a non-title six-man tag match at Extreme Rules, won a title match against Drew McIntyre at Crown Jewel, and lost a non-title match against Roman Reigns at Survivor Series. The battle versus Drew was fantastic, but it was a huge letdown to watch Big E’s reign come to an end with that being his first PPV title defence.
In many aspects, the Day 1 battle feels like it’s more about the other three men or now four men, while Big E is just there as the generic babyface champ battling anyone who comes up. Having Brock Lesnar on top of that was the icing on the cake for the WWE Universe. Big E’s reign as a champion should not have come to an end in a Fatal 5-way cluster.
They couldn’t afford to make Brock Lesnar look weak, could they? And, well, he still hasn’t gotten his dream bout versus Goldberg yet. Big E’s reign as a champion shouldn’t have ended this way, right?
We can still expect a 1 on 1 rematch between Brock and Big E at Royal Rumble.
What’s plans does WWE have for Big E? One is only left to watch!
