On Sunday, Wyndham Clark held on to his lead and captured his 2nd U.S. Open title. Following his victory, he shared an emotional moment with his father, Randall Clark, who surprised him with a visit at Shinnecock Hills on Father’s Day.
The 32-year-old entered the final round with a 6-shot lead and seemed to be cruising towards his 2nd major title. He teed off as the final pair alongside World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, who was aiming to complete the career grand slam on his 30th birthday.
Clark, who had been dominant throughout the event, did not have the best of starts. He made 2 bogeys through the first five holes. Another bogey on the 7th hole saw him finish the front nine with a 3-over par score.
As he struggled a bit, Sam Burns started to make a move for the title. The American international carded a 3-under par score on the front nine with 4 birdies and 1 bogey.
On the back nine, Clark started with a birdie on the 10th hole. Following another bogey on the 13th hole, Burns was right into the mix.
Burns himself made a bogey on the 15th hole but bounced back with a birdie on the 16th hole. Clark then made a huge birdie on the 16th hole and opened up a 2-shot lead with 2 holes to play.

On the par-3 17th hole, things got tricky for the runaway leader. He made three-putts for bogey on this hole, which saw his lead come down to 1-shot.
On the 18th hole, Burns missed a close-range putt that would have seen him tied with Clark for the lead. While he missed his putt, Clark kept his composure.
A par on the final hole saw him finish with a score of 73 in the final round. Despite this 3-over score on Sunday, he managed to hold on and capture his 2nd U.S. Open title by a 1-shot victory.

To his surprise, on Sunday, his father, Randall Clark, waited for him. Two years ago, he underwent an open-heart surgery, leaving a huge mark on his son. The two of them shared an emotional hug on the occasion of Father’s Day.

Wyndham Clark redeems himself at the U.S. Open following historic victory
A lot can change within a year. At this time last year, Wyndham Clark found himself under severe backlash following his actions at Oakmont. This year, he lifted the U.S. Open title for the second time in his career following a historic victory.

Clark had been at the top of the leaderboard since the opening round. On Thursday, he was 6-under par through 16 holes when the play was suspended. After the end of Round 2 on Friday, he had a 4-shot lead over second-placed Matt Fitzpatrick.
The golfer kept his top form going on the moving day. An even par score of 70 on Saturday saw him open up a 6-shot lead. This was the third-largest lead in U.S. Open history after 54 holes.
On Sunday, he did run into some trouble. Eventually, he got the job done and claimed his 2nd major win.

With this win, Clark becomes the 8th golfer in history to go wire-to-wire at the U.S. Open. He is the first person since Martin Kaymer in 2014 to be the outright leader since the start and go on to win the U.S. Open.

Last year, at the U.S. Open, Clark fired scores of 74 in the first and second rounds and was 8-over par. He ended up missing the cut by 1 shot, with the cutline being 7-over par.
He lost his cool in the locker room at Oakmont and ended up damaging the property. While he later apologized for his actions, he was banned by the club.
Before the tournament this year, he opened up about this outburst and claimed he felt “awful” about it and regretted his actions. On Friday, he said he hoped to redeem himself in the eyes of fans following the incident in 2025.
Clark, who started the week at No.34 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), jumped up several places. Following this huge win, he broke inside the top-10 once again and was ranked as the 8th best player in the world.
