The King of the Ring tournament has returned in 2024 as the 23rd edition of the tournament produced by WWE. The tournament will culminate at the King & Queen of the Ring PLE in Saudi Arabia. It will feature superstars from both Raw and SmackDown, including Kofi Kingston. Prior to his Round 1 match on Raw, Xavier Woods had a few words to say about his teammate while calling out WWE for a mistake they made.
Xavier Woods asked the WWE to spell his partner’s name correctly in the promotional graphics. The advertisement for the former WWE Champion’s match on Raw spelled his name as “Kofi Kingson.” The 37-year-old further mentioned that being crowned King of the Ring in 2021 meant a lot to him.
Unfortunately, he will not be defending his crown in this year’s edition. However, his long-time tag partner, Kofi Kingston, has the chance to win the prestigious title this year. He further cheered on the wrestling veteran to bring the crown home for The New Day.

Kingston will take on Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio in the first round of the King of the Ring tournament on the Raw side of things. The WWE Universe was ecstatic to see the heartfelt message from Austin Creed for his teammate. Additionally, they were happy to see that the bond between the members of The New Day was still as strong as ever.
Why did Xavier Woods drop out from the King of the Ring tournament?
On the 22nd April 2024 edition of Monday Night Raw, The New Day came out to interrupt Imperium. During the segment, Gunther revealed that he would be participating in the King of the Ring tournament. Xavier Woods announced his participation in the tournament as well and confirmed that he would be defending his crown. The segment ended with a tag-team match that resulted in Giovanni Vinci being kicked out of Imperium.
Michael Cole announced the first-round matchups for the tournament at the Backlash PLE. However, fans were surprised to see that King Woods was not mentioned anywhere. Many speculated that the former Tag Team Champion may have been pulled out at the last moment due to an injury.
The reigning King of the Ring faced Gunther last week on Monday Night Raw, where he was eventually forced to tap out to The Ring General. Although there are no reports as of yet, many speculate that the 37-year-old suffered an injury during this match. Hence, his tag team partner was substituted in his place at the last moment. Still, fans are unaware of the official reason why the WWE made this change.
