Dan Campbell and the Lions went on an exceptional winning streak during the latter half of the last season. However, it wasn’t enough to help them clinch the playoff spot.
The Lions won eight of their final 10 games to end the regular season with a bang. They were always considered as underdogs in the division as the Packers were always the strongest to finish first. This was due to their star QB Aaron Rodgers. Although, according to recent reports, Rodgers is going to be traded to the Jets. This makes the Lions, the new top-dogs of the division.
The Lions compete from the NFC North, which also includes teams like the Vikings and the Bears including the Packers as well. Campbell is impresses with his teams performance and wants to increase their expectations this year by challenging for the title itself. The Lions are getting confident each year and their HC thinks this is the year they bag the division.
“All it means is, man, do whatever it takes to win your division. That’s where it starts. Are we capable? Yeah, I think we’ll be capable. Now it’s a long time between now and then. But yeah, I think everything was working to this point to where, man, you hit Year 3, and now we’re ready to go dance a bit. I love where we’re at right now.” Dan Campbell stated to NFL Network.
However, the Lions HC will encounter a big problem in his path as they have always lacked in the QB position. However, Campbell feels extremely content with QB Jared Goff and couldn’t stop praising him.
Dan Campbell showered huge praises for QB Jared Goff
Jared Goff has been part of the Lions organization for two season now and has produced decent numbers throughout his time there. Goff was drafted in the 2016 NFL draft by the Rams and moved to Detroit in 2016.
Dan Campbell has been extremely impressed with Goff’s performance and believes that he will be the key that unlocks the NFC North division. However, the HC also stated that the franchise is looking for another quarterback and Goff is just a temporary solution.
“Listen, feel really good about it. Goff? Love Goff. Goff’s our guy, man,” Campbell said when asked about the Lions’ QB situation. “I think he’s proven over the last two years that, man, he’s made for us. He’s had to endure a lot, just like all of us have. I thought he played his best football last year, and I think he’s gonna come out and play some of the best this year. Feel good about it.”
Currently, it seems like the Lions are content with their QB position. Although, they have also been linked with the unsettled Ravens QB Lamar Jackson and may make a move for him this offseason.
