Mercedes Boss Toto Wolff and Nyck deVries SPOTTED hanging out at Monaco amidst news of the AlphaTauri driver’s dismissal
Paparazzi spotted Nyck deVries in a conversation with Mercedes Chief Toto Wolff at Monaco hours after the official announcement of his dismissal from AlphaTauri.

The shocking news of Nyck deVries’ mid-season ousting from AlphaTauri in favor of McLaren‘s banished driver Daniel Ricciardo has been the talk of the F1 town recently. After attaining the highest scores in Formula 2 and Formula E, Nyck deVries made his F1 debut last season as a replacement for Alex Albon at the Monza GP. His masterful racing impressed Helmut Marko so much that the 80-year-old brought the Dutchman in for a seat at Red Bull‘s sister team.
But ten races into his debut F1 season as a regular driver, Nyck deVries has failed to impress his recruiters. Currently sitting at the very bottom of the list with 0 points to his name, he has lost the faith of the executives who have decided to sack him from his job. Thus, without even giving the 28-year-old a chance to finish the 2023 season, it has been decided that he will be replaced by Red Bull’s current reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo from the Hungarian GP.
But all hopes might not be lost for Nyck deVries as there seem to be new opportunities springing up for him at one of Red Bull’s rival teams. Not even 24 hours has been completed since the official announcement of Ricciardo taking deVries’ seat at AlphaTauri, but he was already spotted chatting with none other than Toto Wolff in Monaco earlier today. deVries had previously served as a reserve driver for Mercedes alongwith Stoffel Vandoorne.

Nyck deVries’ chat with Toto Wolff might open doors for him at Williams

At the start of the season, AlphaTauri had recruited Nyck for his debut season while Williams had brought in Logan Sargeant for a seat beside Alex Albon. Now, the Dutchman has already lost his place after a string of poor results and many pundits have said this might be a warning to Sargeant. The American is 19th in the rankings, just above deVries and it might very well be his turn to exit F1 if Toto Wolff deems Nyck deVries to be the perfect fit for Mercedes’ customer team Williams.
While the situation seems quite grave for Nyck deVries, it has been nothing short of a golden opportunity for Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian had just had his first outing since his McLaren exit in the RB-19 at Silverstone. Despite spinning out at one point, his lap timings seemed fit for a front row start at the historic circuit and Christian Horner applauded him for it. Now it remains to be seen how the AlphaTauri gig pans out for him, and whether he can move up from there to get into a Red Bull seat in the future.
