James Harden has been a prominent figure in the recent NBA discussion this summer, primarily due to his trade demand from Philadelphia 76ers. This move posed challenges for the franchise, mirroring his previous exits from the Houston Rockets and Brooklyn Nets.

During a recent “Certified Smoke” podcast episode, Kevin Garnett and Matt Barnes sent a clear message to James Harden, highlighting that the NBA has changed, and his role and influence may not be as dominant as before in team management.

While Garnett and Barnes empathized with James Harden’s frustration towards management, they also raised a crucial point. They acknowledged that Harden had successfully navigated a similar situation in the past, but cautioned that this doesn’t guarantee he’ll be able to repeat that feat in his current circumstances as a franchise player.

Barnes said “The NBA doesn’t need him no more. I’m all for player empowerment. But, he forced his way out of Brooklyn, forced his way out of Houston…He has so much talent and a lot game left, he could talk himself out of the league.”

He added,“He did take less, I don”t think we’re talking about where the whole we’re holding management accountable either, because a lot of these motherf*ckers are full of shit in management, and James took less for them to move their sh*t around and he was promised something was gonna happen.

Garnett further emphasized the situation by recalling how Carmelo Anthony‘s insistence on not accepting a bench role effectively led him out of the NBA, creating challenges for teams seeking to bring him on board.

It’s harsh but reality is that as James Harden gets older, his ability to engineer his way out of teams diminishes. The primary reason behind this shift is that teams are becoming less inclined to make extravagant offers for him. While the Sixers could potentially trade Harden, they’d be hesitant to do so at a significantly reduced value. Consequently, he may not yield the substantial return that Philadelphia desires, which acts as a disincentive for them to pursue a trade involving Harden.

James Harden likely to skip Philadelphia 76ers Media Day

The Philadelphia 76ers are gearing up for their traditional media day scheduled for October 2. However, reports from sixers insider Keith Pompey on Sirius XM radio suggest that James Harden is unlikely to make an appearance during the event in Phiadelphia.

“I don’t expect him [Harden] to be there…I just don’t” said Pompey

Pompey later aims to seek clarification on the alleged unfuilled promises and the events that have brought about the present predicament. Pompey mentioned, “My initial question for him would be to clarify what exactly Daryl Morey misrepresented, and what motivates your desire to leave. These are crucial points, considering the reports suggesting that Daryl failed to facilitate your move despite promises made, although it’s worth noting that these reports are unverified.”

In any case, It’s reasonable to anticipate that James Harden’s tenure with the 76ers is drawing to a close. If he chooses to forgo the Sixers’ Media Day, there’s a possibility that the three-time scoring champion might also be absent from the upcoming training camp.
