Formula One has become one of the most-followed sports in recent times, and owing to its magnitude, it is no surprise that all the people associated with it are now quite influential too. Only a decade ago, the world was just familiar with the names of Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel because of their massive achievements in racing and also their contributions outside the racing circuits. And even though F1 has never been just about the racers, all the people who worked in the background such as the team engineers, strategists, etc. hardly ever got any attention.
Now, the situation has shifted completely. Faces like Guenther Steiner have become popular and all the race engineers have now gotten great followings. Max Verstappen recently said he might retire from F1 if his race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase left Red Bull. Another one of the mechanics that make up the reigning World Champion’s impeccable team is Calum Nicholas. He recently went off on the social media platform X to use his voice to speak about the British government’s latest proposal to change one of the laws related to the homeless people.
The conservative government ruling over Great Britain currently is headed by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Under him, Suella Braverman serves as the Home Secretary. And recently, the former Attorney General for England and Wales took to her official social media handle to comment on the practice of homeless people using tents. She has proposed a law to restrict the use of tents and explain why she wants this to be in action.
Nobody in Britain should be living in a tent on our streets. There are options for people who don't want to be sleeping rough.Suella Braverman said on her X handle.
But the shelters present for the homeless people are grossly overburdened and the tents are the only way to ensure they have a roof above their heads. Thus, Calum Nicholas criticized the government’s plan to thwart the use of tents by the homeless people.
Calum Nicholas labels the UK government’s plan to ban tents as ‘shameless’
Suella Braverman’s tweet claiming that banning the giving away of tents to the homeless would improve their condition has been viewed as a blatant lie by many. Some of the people even claimed that Braverman sounded ignorant as she said living in tents is a ‘lifestyle choice’. The British homelessness charity Shelter dragged Suella Braverman for her comments saying that ‘living on the streets is not a choice but a consequence of failed government policies’ (as reported by Economic Times).

Calum Nicholas also echoed Shelter’s comment regarding the restriction of distribution of tents to the homeless. He took to X to share his views on the matter.
I live in a country where our government has caused an astonishing rise in homelessness. It has now decided that the best solution is to ban tents and fine charities that give them out. Shameful. There’s very little that’s ‘Great’ about Britain.
Shelter has put forth some horrifying statistics which claim that over 271,000 people, including 123,000 children, are currently recorded as homeless in England. Among these, while some do stay at temporary establishments erected by the government, the others opt for tents. Banning the use of these would cause those people to be compelled to roam the streets without a roof above their heads.
