Max Verstappen has continued to fall in performance following Red Bull’s struggling pace in the 2024 season. The 26-year-old had still continued to put forth impressive outings despite the mediocre challenger. However, the Dutchman was hopeful of better performances in front of his home crowd at the Dutch GP.

All eyes were set on the local hero to dominate the field during the Dutch GP. However, Red Bull’s slump has caused Max Verstappen to lose out on major performance. The 26-year-old lost the pole position to Lando Norris after closely following the latter in second. As a result, Verstappen put forth his thoughts regarding the mediocre qualifying session.

Verstappen pointed out that Red Bull ‘lacked in pace’ throughout the qualifying session at Zandvoort. Additionally, the Dutchman noted that he tried his best to amass the pole position. Subsequently, the 26-year-old highlighted that the ‘tricky’ winds around the circuit further increased during the session.

I think the whole qualifying we just lacked a bit of pace, I tried the best I could and I'm still happy with the front row. It was tricky with the gusts of wind.
Max Verstappen said during the post-session interview.

Max Verstappen claimed he was ‘happy’ with front-row start at Zandvoort

Max Verstappen still locked out a front-row start despite the struggles around the circuit. Hence, he will have a great shot of scoring impressive results in front of the home crowd. Verstappen noted that he was happy with the result, especially considering the practice session struggles. Additionally, the 26-year-old ‘hoped’ for the RB20 to perform well on Sunday.

I'm happy with second - considering yesterday as well, this is a good result. Hopefully the car is okay tomorrow in the race.
