Scotland are finally back at this summer’s European Championships after 23 long years of exile from major tournaments, since their participation in the 1998 World Cup in France, thanks to their dramatic qualification following the back-to-back tiebreaker victories over Israel and Serbia in the semi-finals and final of the Euro 2020 playoffs. However, they find themselves in a tough group with England, who are one of the favourites in the tournament with the strength and fire power they possess and Croatia, who bring an experienced and well balanced squad to this competition.
The Czech’s will be no less a tricky opponent, henceforth qualifying for the knockouts will be not much of an easy task for Steve Clarke’s team. But the Scots will go head strong into their clash against Czech Republic after having a good warm-up to the competition with a draw against the Netherlands and a win over Luxembourg, which will be a major boost to their mindset.

On the other hand, Czech Republic will definitely want to kick-start their Euro campaign with a win, which will certainly increase their chances of qualifying for the Round of 16 from this rather tricky group. The runners-up of the 1996 England Euros are rather an inconsistent side, going into the tournament with a 4-0 defeat to Italy in their first pre-tournament warm-up friendly but they managed to return to winning ways against Albania, winning 3-1.
Though the Czech’s lack the consistency, their draw with Belgium in the 2022 World Cup qualifier back in March was an indication of the strength and grit they possess and they can make their way to the knock-outs by virtues of tough fights, evident from their performance in previous editions. So they would be likely wanting to win their opening game against the Scots, who are the weakest in the group, to increase their chances of progression into the last 16s, before finishing with two tough fights against Croatia and England.
