After her triumph at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship yesterday, Nelly Korda’s dream of becoming the World No.1 for the first time in her career will come true shortly.

Earlier, Korda was the top-ranked American at the No.3 in the world. She was also ranked as high as No. 2 in 2020.  By winning the Women’s PGA Championship, Korda also got a cheque for $675, 000. It was her sixth Major title of her career.

Lauding her efforts, former World No.1 tennis player Andy Murray was quick to respond with a tweet. “What the Korda family is doing is incredible.” The Brit has always been an intense supporter of women across sports.

Genetically a sporting family—The Korda’s

It is interesting to note that Nelly is the sister of next gen star Sebastian Korda, who has been causing quite a stir on the ATP tour lately. He is currently ranked No.50 and has won 23 matches in this season already. He was last seen at Halle in the quarterfinals, where he lost to Ugo Humbert in three sets.

The 20-year-old won two titles this season. The first one came in the Quimper Challenger and the second in Parma. He was also a finalist at the Delray Beach. He will kick start his 2021 Wimbledon campaign against Australia’s Alex de Minaur. He has only played three matches on the grass. Therefore, it remains to be seen how he fares at the All England Club.

It is also incredible to note that both Sebastian and Nelly are the children of former ATP tennis player Petr Korda. Petr is a former Australian Open champion (1998) and a runner-up at the Roland Garros (1992). In fact, he even rose to the No.2 position in the ATP rankings in the 90s, despite tough competition from Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi and Pat Rafter.

Indeed, there are some special genes in the Korda family. Going ahead, we can expect plenty more sporting headlines from the sporting Korda family.
