The reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Logano found himself in a pickle over his comments, after the North Wilkesboro All-Star race loss to Christopher Bell. He missed out on the $1 million payday and frustrated with the aggressive style racing promised payback before backtracking on the comments a day after. Now Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. has assessed the situation.
In the most recent episode of the Dale Jr. Download podcast, JRM co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. discussed the three times champion’s outburst and how he walked it back, taking blame for starting the aggressive racing. The whole NASCAR community was surprised with the Joey Logano outburst, though the incident was pretty normal and Christopher Bell was clearly not the initial aggressor.
Joey gets out and says that stuff and holy sh*t, everybody went after him. In the world of social media, which I know is a tip of the iceberg but still, everybody was taken aback. Even Christopher Bell, when they told him he was like, ‘Really?’ He was really surprised that Joey felt the way he felt. Does it make it OK now that Joey walked them back? I don’t know.

This made the two times Xfinity Series champion ask the question is walking back on the comment is enough, considering the situation. The veteran asserted that the appropriate comment from Logano at the moment would have been his feelings about losing $1 million and not being a “sore looser” he himself admitted being.
I still have a problem with Joey having that instant reaction. Even though he walks it back a day later, I appreciate that. He went and watched it and went, ‘Alright, it wasn’t that bad.’ For him to have the instant reaction he had, still is a irk. He could say, ‘I’m pissed, I lost $1 million.’ Not, ‘He raced me like an assh***.’
Dale Earnhardt Jr. added.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. is happy with the aggressive race at the end
In the same conversation, Junior shared his feelings about the aggression that was on show towards the end of the race. He asserted that the Wilkesboro race, with the car, prize pool and soft tier, put the drivers in such a situation where muscling their way was the only way. The veteran admitted that he wouldn’t have been pissed if the driver raced cleaner at the end.

Christopher Bell just had the better car and had to muscle his way on by. Which we put them in an atmosphere where muscling them by is what we wanted. We put them at the racetrack — multiple grooves, $1 million, the soft tire — like, if there was a pass at the end of that race that was clean, I would have been fu*king disappointed. It wasn’t enough fireworks.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.
The veteran has recently made many comments regarding the aggression on the track. He seems to be missing the “rattling the cages moment” NASCAR fans no longer see as he recently called the drivers like Carson Hocevar and Ross Chastain to continue racing like a**holes, don’t change. Junior isn’t calling for mindless aggression, but more bold and risky racing.
