The NASCAR community was confused when in 2021, Atalanta Motor Speedway, one of the iconic venues of the sport was closed for reconfiguration. The track was narrowed from 55ft in turns to 40ft while banking increased from 24 to 28 and in a 163 days project. This update changed it to one of the best tracks in the Cup Series schedule in the Next-Gen era.

It has become a short-track version of superspeedways, adding another venue to the wild card race list alongside Talladega and Daytona. Since its debut barring some wild moments, the track has produced some of the best races in the current era. The latest event added to the list was Quaker State 400 Available at Walmart, that saw Chase Elliott securing a win overtaking Brad Keselowski on the last lap.

Talking about this race in the latest episode of The Teardown podcast, senior NASCAR Journalist Jordan Bianchi asserted that he sees the venue was legit best track in the schedule. He believes the track has been producing races on the level of Charlotte, Kansas and Vegas, the intermediate cars that host best races in the Next-Gen era.

Yes, oh We do we talk all the time on this show on how the great the intermediates are you know the Charlotte’s the Kansas is maybe Vegas just a little bit of lesser degree. Oh, we care so excited They’re gonna go there and they’re gonna put on a great show and they do like Charlotte this year The 600 was a terrific race.

Jordan Bianchi said via The Teardown podcast.

Another major factor is the how close and competitive races are. Biachi highlighted how the last two races have seen about 50 lead changes each, making it the most competitive and interesting races. The best example of increased completion is Daniel Suarez win at the track in 2024, where he beat Ryan Blaney in a photo-finish that saw them finish with 0.003s gap, with Kyle Busch also finishing just 0.007s behind the winner, a proper three wide photo-finish.

I’m sorry. I saw your stats, 50 lead changes in the spring race here 46 tonight, right? This is NASCAR’s most competitive interesting track

Jordan Biachi added.

NASCAR insiders aren’t impressed enough with Chase Elliott despite the win

Chase Elliott secured his maiden win of 2025 and ended his 42-race winless streak, sending the fans to a frenzy. But Jordan Bianchi isn’t that impressed with it, as he is expected to fighting for win again and again with his Hendrick Motorsports Chevy. But the issue he has with the driver is the fact that though he consistently finishing inside the top-20, he isn’t securing enough stage points or leading enough laps.

It’s fine, but to me, it’s no different than Chase Briscoe a week ago. Like, you’re expected to win, you know, and it’s not just to win once. You’re expected to do this again and again. And it’s nice that you get a win, that’s great, but the reality is, guess how many stage wins Chase Elliott has this year – zero.

Jordan Bianchi said.

The way the veteran is racing at the moment, it doesn’t suit the current championship format where stage points is also really significant for the playoffs. His current point finishing run is more suited for the 36 points system of the past, and if he had been racing at that time, the No:9 team would have been toping the table.  He has to convert the consistent top 20 finish run of his 2025 season to more wins and stage win in the coming events.
