Kamaru Usman has conquered it all in the UFC’s welterweight division. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has shattered many a record ever since joining the UFC in 2015. He recently went past Georges St-Pierre’s record for the most consecutive wins in the welterweight division, after winning his 13th straight fight against Gilbert Burns at UFC 258.

He is now just 2 wins away from equaling Anderson Silva’s record for the most consecutive wins in the UFC. Silva is on 16, while Usman is currently on 14. In a recent Instagram Live, Usman hosted a Q&A session wherein he answered a few questions from fans.

During one such interaction, Kamaru Usman revealed that he could Boxing great Canelo Alvarez in a Boxing match, if he is in the groove. Although, the welterweight champ acknowledged the Mexican’s greatness, he believed that there was nothing that he (Usman) wouldn’t be able to do if he puts his mind to something.

Usman was quoted as saying, “I think I can do anything that I put my mind to. I don’t disrespect Canelo. I think Canelo is one of the best, one of the greatest of this generation and I do not disrespect him at all. I respect his skills and I think he’s a phenomenal champion. But I also know whatever I put I mind to, I go out there and I get it. So if it’s in the cards in the future, maybe we’ll dance. We’ll see.”

Usman has currently got his hands full. He is set to take on Colby Covington in a rematch at UFC 268 which will be taking place in November this year. The pair last met at UFC 245 in December, 2019. This will be Usman’s fifth title defense of his welterweight title.

Canelo Alvarez, on the other hand, beat Billy Joe Saunders a couple of months ago. He is expected to face Caleb Plant next, although no talks of the same have advanced. The fight is unlikely to happen in the next couple of months according to promoter Eddie Hearn.
