- Jeremiyah Love was selected third overall by the Arizona Cardinals, surprising analysts who expected a different pick.
- He signed a four-year, $53 million contract, which raised questions about the team's confidence in him.
- Love quoted Spider-Man, emphasizing responsibility and his commitment to earning the trust placed in him.
When the Arizona Cardinals selected Jeremiyah Love with their third-overall pick, many heads swiveled. No one expected the highly rated running back to go that high.
The franchise was heavily linked with Alabama Crimson Tide star Ty Simpson. Analysts expected the Cardinals to trade back for the quarterback, as he was not good enough to go that high.
Their selection of the Notre Dame product surprised everyone, as those playing his position have generally been undervalued over the past few years.
Then, when the organization handed the rookie a four-year, $53 million contract, many eyebrows went up higher. But some wondered what the Cardinals saw in Jeremiyah Love to do all that in a few weeks and prove they believe in him.
His decision not to spend any part of his massive rookie contract was seen as an impressive character trait. At a time when professional athletes and lavish expenditures are synonymous, such decisions show maturity.
Spider-Man said that, ‘With great power comes great responsibility.’ … I’m only getting that much because I was drafted… I still haven’t done anything at the end of the day… I’m ready to work, ready to earn… I take their trust in me very seriously, and I’m going to make sure I give them a return on their investment.
Jeremiyah Love told reporters
This should destroy any doubts anyone had in the 20-year-old’s mindset. Love does not believe that he earned that contract, it was a result of his draft status.

But he wants to make sure that the Cardinals reap the rewards of their investment in him. This grounded mindset could set him up for a great NFL career.
Jeremiyah Love impresses at rookie minicamp
This Spider-Man quote from Jeremiyah Love went viral for all the right reasons. The running back is at the Arizona Cardinals’ rookie minicamp, and his moves on the practice fields left many impressed.
Since it is only for players drafted this year, the six-footer might not have weighed his performance against the vets. But what he did on the field went viral.
The Cardinals revealed footage of the Missouri native juking a staff member with a slight move, enough to give him the lane to speed up and catch the pass from fellow rookie Carson Beck.

If this is what he can produce on the practice field, opposing defenders might as well learn his tendencies, as he could be a problem next season.
Some might want to downplay it, since last year’s highest running back selection did not have an overtly impressive campaign. It is hard for college running backs to make their mark right away, and some might hold on to their expectations when it comes to Love.
Jeremiyah Love and Carson Beck could be the immediate future for the Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals are starting a new era under first-year head coach Mike LaFleur. Along with Carson Beck, LaFleur will have four QBs to choose from.

They have not made a decision regarding their Week 1 starter, but Gardner Minshew and Jacoby Brissett, despite his absence, are firmly in the mix. However, the head coach could take a shot at Beck.
The latter might need some time to understand the NFL’s nuances. But once he is ready, pairing him alongside Love and star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. would be a good recipe for future success.
The franchise has long been one of the most underwhelming teams. After ending their run with Kyler Murray, a shift toward building a new young core could be a good way to ensure that future success is a possibility.
